I have 2 external LG monitors on a MacBook Pro.

Recently I set up a Multi-Output Device using the Apple Audio MIDI setup utility which allows you to select multiple output devices and then use them as a single audio output.

I have noticed that when I combine LG Monitors and the MacBooks Pro speakers into 1 output device, then I can only change the volume on the LG monitors using the Monitor Control software. The volume on the MacBook speakers are not changed.

This does make the volume control rather pointless. The mute button also only works on the external monitors and doesn't work on the laptop speakers.

Has anyone else had this issue and is there a work around for it?
