array = ["blue", "red", "gray"]  # Syntax highlight works fine here
print("blue" in array)  # The string "blue" fine
"blue" in array  # This bare string appears faded, same as comments

Basically, strings inside functions like print() get proper color, but bare strings or strings in expressions show up too faint, almost like comments. Hope this helps clarify the problem.
