Action Group for Irish Youth (AGIY) have published a new study compiled by Professor Bronwen Walter of Anglia Polytechnic University.

Jonathan O'Dea from AGIY says it is vital to have a question so that people can register their cultural identity as Irish.

''An assumption can be made that the ONS feels the Irish have assimilated into British society and are no longer socially, economically or culturally different to the white British,'' an AGIY spokesman said.
