ARRL was awarded a $181,900 grant from the Office of Homeland Security's Corporation for National Community Service to train amateur radio operators in emergency preparedness.
Those in this class can "even make international radio contacts via satellites, using relatively simple equipment," according to the
ARRL Web site.
ARRL also sells a number of home study courses for exam preparation, publications dealing with all facets of the ham radio world, and a magazine, QST, through membership or at bookstores.
