The intelligence service told the Bild newspaper Friday that Gudrun Burwitz, a notorious post-war supporter of the extreme Right, worked as a secretary for the BND from 1961 to 1963.

BND also targeted at least 75 foreign embassies, as well as other diplomatic missions, the report claims.

The BND pays a competitive interest rate on these deposits that is generally at about the midpoint of rates paid by other banks in the state.

The call followed a meeting between MI6 chief Alex Younger, the head of the BND, Bruno Kahl, and the directorgeneral of the French DGSE, Bernard Emie, at the Munich Security Conference.

Der Spiegel magazine, citing documents it had seen, said the BND had added the email addresses, phone numbers and fax numbers of the police investigators to its sector surveillance list.

He served two stints in the political section of the German Embassy in Moscow, and from 2007 to 2010 was vice-president of the BND.

It's an awkward document, not only because it shows the depth of BND cooperation, but also because when it was signed, in 2002, the head of the chancellor's office, and thus the intelligence service, was the Social Democratic politician Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who is now the foreign minister.

The information came from a BND informant within Pakistans Inter-Services Intelligence agency and confirmed CIA suspicions, said the newspaper report which cited unnamed US intelligence sources.
