Star Pubs & Bars, with Bar Hound, take over LYH from the Head of Steam pub group, which sold the rest of its portfolio to Camerons Brewery last year.

Among them is the Town Wall, on Newcastle's Pink Lane which, along with Lady Grey's, the Five Swans, the King's Manor and the Broad Chare, is one of five new city centre entries, while the Head of Steam-run LYH and the Duke of Wellington on High Bridge miss out.

"We all know that binge drinking and subsequent public disorder on the streets, as well as high hospital admissions, is primarily caused by very cheap, often very strong alcohol bought from the off trade, particularly supermarkets," said Mr Brookes, whose firm owns Head of Steam bars in Newcastle and Durham as well as The Cluny in Ouseburn, The Central in Gateshead, and Tilleys Bar and LYH in Newcastle.

BEER EXTRAS LYH pub, at 10 Northumberland Road, just off Northumberland Street in Newcastle, is holding another beer festival which starts tomorrow, October 22, and goes on until Thursday.

As part of city pub chain Head of Steam's Burns Night celebrations, Tilley's Bar on Westgate Road, LYH on Northumberland Road and The Cluny in Ouseburn, are firing up their fryers to serve the notorious deepfried Mars bar.

Starting in LYH just off Northumberland Street, it will then head off at 6.45pm to take in pubs such as the Kings Manor, Cumberland Arms, the Cluny and the Free Trade.

Just off Newcastle's Northumberland Street, LYH has for the last two years been part of North East real ale pub chain Head of Steam.

Their next gig will be tomorrow at LYH pub in Northumberland Road, Newcastle, as part of North East Unsigned.

LYH pub, on Northumberland Road, is honouring Brian and his former band with a special menu of fishy food and sunshine cocktails.

He sent a written representation to the OFT comparing his pub Tilleys on Westgate Road with his only tied pub LYH on Northumberland Road.

The gigs at Head of Steam venues - LYH, on Newcastle's Northumberland Road, and The Cluny, in Ouseburn, Byker - will narrow the field week-by-week and will include prizes for artists as well as support and guidance to develop them and help them to gain attention.
