Drs Francis Mussai and Carmela De Santo, who are based at the University of Birmingham, studied immune cells, called myeloid-derived suppressor cells or 'MDSCs', taken from the blood of 200 adults and children newly diagnosed with cancer before they had started treatment.*

In the study, researchers examined the mechanisms underlying the expansion of myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) and the suppression of T-cell responses in persistent HBV infection.

Glass transition or vitrification point is determined using MDSC from the inflection point of the heat capacity ([C.sub.p]) during the isothermal dwell period [22].

MDSC was first reported by Devine and Schellhammer in 1978 as a means to treat testicular pain of unknown etiology (5).

Although radiation has been shown to have immunostimulatory effects, immunosuppressive effects can also be observed with IFN-y associated recruitment of regulatory T cells (Tregs) and myeloid derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) [2, 18].

Regarding the determination of [T.sub.g], the MDSC thermograms were acquired in the range of temperature of -90 to 290[degrees]C.

Tumor and stromal cells express ARG, IDO, Cox2/Ptgs2, and iNOS/NOS2, which produce reactive oxygen species (ROS), chemokines, and Th2 cytokines that recruit Tregs, MDSC, and tumor-associated macrophages (TAM) to block effector T cell activation.

They also discovered that ONA inhibited pro-tumor activities of myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSC), which the researchers say are linked with the suppression of the anti-tumor immune response of host lymphocytes.
