While Karnataka is contending that it is entitled to construct the dam, Tamil Nadu has raised objection on the grounds that the reservoir could affect the flow of water ( 192 tmc ft of water as allocated by the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal) into their region, particularly during summer.

Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and other ministers were also present at the flagging off event.
