“why do you ship them?” because I like fun and sexy things
“why do you ship them?” ma’am this is a fandom space, not a test for moral superiority based on fictional gay characters

it actually pisses me off when people think shippers are as dumb as rocks.
“shippers mischaracterize the characters and twists canon so they can ship this ship. they don’t have feelings for each other and never will.”
ok and? what do you think shipping is? you can do these things and still understand the original content at hand. and shipping always changes canon.. that is the point of shipping. and you also have to tweak the characters a bit since they most likely were never in love in the show. of course we know this.
“this ship is toxic! you guys are putting characters together that would never willingly want to be together. one character actively hates/hurts/betrays the other!”
thats why we ship it dude. we know its toxic and we like it. that, or we know the characters could learn to forgive and/or love each other. humans always have enjoyed toxic shit. im sorry youre new to fandom and the world. 💀
It’s like people forgot that fanon is a thing. And that it’s supposed to be for fun.
I stg I could come on here and be like “everyone should try to be nice” and somebody I the notes would be like op you don’t understand I have Terminal Meanie Disorder and this hurt my feelings 🥺
“Op is a misogynist because they haven’t considered the societal pressure to be nice that’s disproportionately placed on women.”
“So we should be nice to BAD PEOPLE? We should be nice to NAZIS and let them do whatever they want?”
It really do be like that on this, the piss poor reading comprehension site.
Super agree with the above, and it brings to mind a thing I see a lot that really bugs me.
The idea that those perpetrating abuse ‘don’t really love you.’ As though *Abuser* is some special category of person that lacks normal human emotions. And when you internalize that idea too fully it makes it very easy to classify someone’s actions as 'not really abuse’ because you can tell that they genuinely care about you to it *can’t really* be abuse.
It doesn’t matter if they love you or not. It matters that their behavior is harming you.
YES!!!! So often I’ll see a piece of media depict an abuser as a human being and get screamed at for “romanticizing it”
sorry that you think my fictional ship is illegal. I actually consulted a fictional lawyer about it and he had a talk with a fictional cop about the fictional laws and then they both looked at me, and very seriously said “we’ll allow it because it’s hot.”
you know the discourse is bad when seeing a post like “how you depict things in fiction matters” and you don’t know if the op means “you can perpetuate bigoted rhetoric and harmfull stereotypes if you don’t actively write avoid it” or “if you write incest and their heads don’t explode at the end you actually want everyone to fuck their dads”
people who go into tags just to be mad about the contents of said tag
OH MY GOD. This is tumblr in a nutshell, guys.
IDGAF if the women in my fiction are empowering or aspirational, I’m an adult, I don’t need role models, I want the women in my fiction to be interesting, and if that involves being pathetic, hypocritical, amoral, or trapped in a delightfully dysfunctional relationship so be it
#‘this is so illegal/toxic/unhealthy’#yeah bestie thats why im reading about it instead of doing it
Look, pal, when I say “fanfiction does not have the cultural reach to be able to change social perceptions of controversial topics”
what I mean is “if Game of Thrones could not manage to normalize incest, a handful of shipcest fics on AO3 with 50 kudos each sure aren’t going to manage to normalize it!”
And you know that. In your heart you know it.
“Well, what if a shipcest fanfiction got SO popular that-”
What if the world was made of pudding.
It’s hilarious to me when people complain about AO3 and its policies, and what they allow on the site - but it’s ESPECIALLY funny when people complain like “Why can’t the freaks make their own site and just go there?”
Sweetie… AO3 is the site for that. Y'all invaded our space.
Wattpad and FFN still exist. Go there. They’re as shitty and G-rated as you want. You can’t have the luxuries that AO3 offers if you’re gonna be a little bitch about its policies. Imagine walking into a strip club and complaining about the alcohol and naked ladies when there’s a god damn Dennys next door you could have gone to. Christ.
