- Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2015Carmela Santiago, a werewolf, was hurt by the hunters during a raid in the theater. She was saved by Derek Ashmore, a vampire who hid her and took care of her wound. Vampires and werewolves had been enemies for centuries and both, Carmela and Derek, were suspicious of the other one. Carmela was thinking about was waiting for her in the future and it was a bad thing. She felt something for the vampire who care about her but, afraid of what her cruel father would do, Carmela fled leaving Derek thinking he was attracted to her. This first part begins with a good dose of action and suspense. The author gives the reader vampires, werewolves and hunters in a continue guessing as to what’s happening with this new post apocalypse world. The plot was intense with different and intriguing characters. The main characters were well define with interesting dialogues that make the reader think. My mind worked overtime with the emotions that the plot was bringing. This first part has caught my attention because of the themes developed and the way the author presents then. Love paranormal and this series looks like a winner. Eager for the second part.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2015My Thoughts - 4 out of 5 Unicorns - I really liked it!!!
The cover definitely made me notice it which is why I bought it :)
This is the first part in this novella serial series. If you are not sure what all the means, it is simple :) Novella is the length and for this book about 60 pages. Serial series are where one book is broken into parts or episodes like a TV series. Only with a book serial you can miss any of the parts or you will be missing major content. It must be read in order :) This serial is not complete yet, so this means waiting in between parts and usually at the end of each part is a cliffhanger. If you don’t like cliffhangers, the solution is simple, wait until the whole thing is complete and then read it :) Personally I like not having to wait a whole year for the new book, so I don’t mind serials which are usually published monthly. I am know sure on the rating of this book, but I’m thinking adults only with the violence and abuse.
This is my first time reading Sarah’s work though I know I do own several of her works as I’m a book addict…I just haven’t made time to read them all yet…pesky things like work, son, and life getting in my way ;) I really enjoyed reading this part. She has created a new world that I am still learning about, but it has shifters, vampires, and a blown up moon.
Carmela is a shifter, and she has to put up with quite a bit at home. Her dad needs his butt kick, her mom is abused, and her cousin….well I’m not sure what to think of her yet but so far she needs to be slapped. Derek is a sexy vampire, and he seems like he is a good guy so far….helping out. Brendan only showed up at the end, so I don’t know enough yet to decide if I like him yet. Carmela so far is unsure about both, so we will see if she chooses one or the other or who knows both :) There is some action, and there is definitely some underhanded things going on, but I’m not sure exactly what yet. I just know I liked it and I’m ready for part two :)
I recommend this book to people who like serials with shifters and vampires and that is unique. Off to read the next part :)
- Reviewed in the United States on July 4, 2015How could a night go so wrong? Carmela and Chandra were just out to have a good time. Just a little fun when the place they were at was raided by the Cazador. Could they both escape and make it out of this alive?
Carmela was destine to be the Alpha Queen. Her father had plans for her and it did not matter whether she wanted to mate with the alpha her father chosen for her, for she did not have a say. Her father was a cruel man. I truly hate him. I don’t believe that man could love anything. Hope before this series is done bad falls upon him. Carmela never thought that she would be saved by a vampire by the name of Derek. Vampires and Werewolves were mortal enemies. Did he wish her harm? Did she look like easy prey for him?
Derek never dreamed he would put his life on the line for a werewolf. He just could not get her out of his mind. Will things end madly for him since he could not resist saving her? Will he ever be able to get her out of his head?
I can already tell that this is going to be a great series. There is so much chemistry between Carmela and Derek. I love paying attention to the way the authors describe the voice of the male characters. In this one it was his accented voice was smooth and husky like sex on silk sheets..lol Love it. I also loved the fact that his breath smelt like mints. If you love shifters and vampire books you will love this one.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 31, 2019Needs more back history. Being asked to just accept a new world order was a surprise. Too much going on.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 15, 2015I am not sure what to say about this book. I have enjoyed all of Sarah other books but was unable to get into this story line at all. I am not sure I even understood the characters. It seemed to be more of a dark book with no hope for anyone and no personalities in the characters.
This was actually very disappointing for me because I liked all previous works I have read.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 28, 2015I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Sarah, you've gone and done it again! You've managed to capture my attention, and I don't want to let go.
Sarah has a unique way of weaving a story from her wonderful imagination, and as always, she has managed to do just that with this story. The plot is new, fresh with a wicked new twist. It's a bit apocalyptic, mixed with the fact that vampires and werewolves just don't mix...or do they? Then don't forget to throw in the human "hunters" the Cazador, out to kill off all of the nocturnes, just for s***s and giggles.
The characters are unique, a bit cynical with a bit of humour and a lot of heart thrown in for good measure.
This instalment is a great opening for an even better series. It is, of course, a major cliffhanger. So many questions to find answers for. Oh! When is part two? A must read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Werewolf and a Vampire WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!
My first read of werewolf and vampire romance absolute out of there but loved it never the less as it is the epitome of a romeo and Juliet in the PNR world.
You always read about shifters mating for life and loving them but in this case Carmela’s Father is another breed of father who is so evil it beggars belief.
As for Derek the vampire can’t wait to read more about him in the next book of the series.
Perfect length for a novella easily read in one sitting.

4.0 out of 5 stars Short but Very Sweet, if a vampire and a werewolf can be sweet - Cliffhanger Ending
Carmela is a high born werewolf who is attacked by hunters but saved from certain death by Derek who is a vampire. What an unlikely couple they would make, but Carmela is engaged to marry/mate Brendon although she is attracted to Derek. What is a girl to do? She wants love will she find it. I don't do spoilers so I can't say any more but I will say I can't wait to read the next part of the serial. If you like adult fantasy and sexy stories you will love this episode of a 5 part serial.

4.0 out of 5 stars nice start to the series
BENEATH THE BROKEN MOON – SARAH MAKELA
Beneath the broken moon is a great read and a nice introduction into the characters. For the broken moon series I would have liked more information as to how the moon broke, why and what happened after.
Carmela Santiago is a female werewolf and in this time frame females are needed for breeding as the race is becoming extinct. Her abusive A**hole of a father has a fellow shifter chosen to be her mate she is not at all in favour of this.
While out with her cousin, hunters attack the movie theatre while escaping she is shot and rescued by a vampire Derek Ashmore. Has she gone from bad to worse as werewolves and vampires are sworn enemies. She agrees to go on a date with the man that her father chose. Who seems to be a kind and caring man (werewolf) Brendan Kelly he is not at all what she is expecting. Will this sexy vampire be the end of Carmela’s heart or will she settle for the man her father has chosen for her?
As this is not set in our timeline I felt some more back ground information would have been helpful to clarify what has happened and how they arrived at how they have reached where they are.
Having received this ARC for an honest review. I would recommend this as a good read. I look forward to reading part 2 to see how the rest of the story takes us.
