English: James Cecil Ryan (October 19, 1900 – January 20, 1978) was an American academic administrator and educator. Ryan moved to the Territory of Alaska in 1928 and enjoyed a career in education in Alaska spanning nearly 40 years. He was a professor at the Alaska Agricultural College and School of Mines, later the University of Alaska (today the University of Alaska Fairbanks), the territorial commissioner of education and superintendent of schools for Fairbanks (today's Fairbanks North Star Borough School District). Ryan Junior High (now Ryan Middle School) in Fairbanks, opened in 1969, was named in his honor.
