date problem

edit

Top of page states Avraham was born in 1168; Maimonides died in 1204. 1204-1168 = 36. But the page states "... at the age of only eighteen." Rpresser 17:49, 6 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

The Chabad.org reference states Avraham was born in 1185, which would fix the problem. None of the other referenced works give a birthdate. I will change the page. Rpresser 17:51, 6 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
LC authority file gives birth date as 1186, which I changed (also aligned the birth category with it)--FeanorStar7 08:29, 25 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Rename article?

edit

With the words "Avraham" and "Rambam" both being Hebrew(ish), the "son of" grates a bit. Why not go the rest of the way, and rename the article "Avraham ben Rambam" or "Avraham bar Rambam"? Rpresser 16:05, 22 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Undid Ibrahim Vandalism

edit

Revision 228980520 by 194.170.193.28 changed every instance of 'Avraham' to 'Ibrahim' despite the fact that he is not commonly referred to as such in either academia or the Jewish world, nor is there is any known evidence indicating that this is how he was primarily known. Presumably according to this anonymous vandal's logic the Maimonides article should repeatedly refer to him as "Abu Imran Mussa bin Maimun ibn Abdallah al-Qurtubi al-Israili." --BrooklynHabiru 22:20, 19 August 2008

Move completed following Admin delete of stub with Britannica etc. spelling In ictu oculi (talk) 04:11, 7 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
I hope you did not loose any info in the move. I remember seeing his age at the time of his fathers death? Yet the history of AsoR is not available? Chesdovi (talk) 09:52, 7 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
Whoops, yes I did have that in the stub before you let me know it was a duplicate. It was such a basic fact I assumed it (and the others) would be in the larger article. I'll retrace the source and see if I can recover it... In ictu oculi (talk) 09:56, 7 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

The main point is not in the article: he was a sufi-rabbi.

edit

This is all the point. the essense of his teaching and massage. i am from the very few that studying him. Chabad and other ashkenazi orthodox judaism dont conforted with this fact, so people dont see him right. ALL his writtings are in the spirit of sufism. and as his father was aristotelian, he saw himself as revealing HIGHER truth in the sufism. just another step to his father.

and what i am saying is based on the greatest scholar of the subject, paul fenton, sorbonn university.

he shouls defiend from the beginning as sufi-rabbi,or reviver of the maimoni judaism by sufism. The sufis in egypt at his time where the Shadiliyya. they florished and it is the main historical reason to the influence. but he was equented with other sufi teachings by writtings.

This sufi judaism contine by his son Obadya maimoni, his grandson, ect... till the fiftheen century!!

so i think you should stress that above all.and change the format of the article. 84.111.157.95 (talk) 11:39, 9 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Milchamot?

edit

The claim that R' Avraham's most prominent work was Milchamos Hashem and not Hamaspik isn't sourced and, given the far greater numbers of Hamaspiks I have seen sold in stores than Milchamot Hashems, surprises me. Is there a basis/source for this claim? g.j.g (talk) 06:15, 27 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
