Welcome!
editHi Timeout22! I noticed your contributions and wanted to welcome you to the Wikipedia community. I hope you like it here and decide to stay.
The rule that affects you most as a new or IP editor is the prohibition on making any edit related to the Arab–Israel conflict unless you are logged into an account and that account is at least 30 days old and has made at least 500 edits.
This prohibition is broadly construed, so it includes edits such as adding the reaction of a public figure concerning the conflict to their article or noting the position of a company or organization as it relates to the conflict.
The exception to this rule is that you may request a specific change to an article on the talk page of that article or at this page. Please ensure that your requested edit complies with our neutral point of view and reliable sourcing policies, and if the edit is about a living person our policies on biographies of living people as well.
Any edits you make contrary to these rules are likely to be reverted, and repeated violations can lead to you being blocked from editing.As you get started, you may find this short tutorial helpful:

editHello. In a recent edit to the page Flag of Togo, you changed one or more words or styles from one national variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.
For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to another English-speaking country, such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, India, or Pakistan, use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the first author of the article used.
In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk. While Togo is a French speaking country, its closest English speaking neighbors are Ghana & Nigeria. Ghanaian English & Nigerian English are both based on or resemble British English & thus would use British spellings. Your change to an American English spelling failed to consider this. You may wish to consult the American and British English spelling differences article. Peaceray (talk) 16:29, 23 August 2024 (UTC)

editHello, I'm Daisytheduck. I noticed that you recently removed content from Colonization without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Introduction to contentious topics
editYou have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

- Isn't the talk page to discuss additions to the page? Timeout22 (talk) 09:32, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- As per the above notices and WP:ARBECR, you are not permitted to make anything other than edit requests in the topic area, see WP:EDITXY. Selfstudier (talk) 09:39, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- But that's what I did. I didn't edit anything. I requested an update in the talk page. That's exactly what this article is saying to do. Timeout22 (talk) 09:58, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- Just read that. That is all I did was make an edit request on the talk page as are outlined in that link. So can no one make edit requests? Timeout22 (talk) 10:15, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry I am just confued Timeout22 (talk) 10:26, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- As per the above notices and WP:ARBECR, you are not permitted to make anything other than edit requests in the topic area, see WP:EDITXY. Selfstudier (talk) 09:39, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
Reminder, please confine your editing in the AI topic area to edit requests only, thank you. Selfstudier (talk) 09:07, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- Why did you remove my talk request for discussion? That is the purpose of the talk page. I was bringing up potential edits to discuss.
- wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Talk_page_guidelines Timeout22 (talk) 09:40, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- See my reply above. Selfstudier (talk) 09:41, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- None of that mentions the talk page. That is about editing the actual content which I didn't do Timeout22 (talk) 09:46, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- Can you please explain why I can't bring up a topic in the talk section? Or what rule I violated. I am confused. Or can I not bring things up only certain editors can talk in the talk section? Timeout22 (talk) 09:51, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- Please read the big green notice up above and then read WP:ARBECR, thanks. Selfstudier (talk) 09:54, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- I read it and its all about editing content and requesting content changes. The talk section is for that purpose which is where I posted my content. That big green notice is talking about actual content edits. I didn't do that Timeout22 (talk) 10:00, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- I just read the link you sent. It says to use the talk page to make request. Exactly what I did. So please explain what I did wrong! If you can't I am adding back my request to have the Hezbellah page include what they did in Syria because its important context. That can be linked to the page on Wikipedia about it. Timeout22 (talk) 10:11, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- Since you appear to be having some trouble reading what it says in the big green box above, I will quote the relevant part:
- "The exception to this rule is that you may request a specific change to an article on the talk page of that article or at this page. Please ensure that your requested edit complies with our neutral point of view and reliable sourcing policies, and if the edit is about a living person our policies on biographies of living people as well."
- Your edit on the Hezbollah needs to comply with WP:EDITXY and if you choose not to use the template, then follow the form of it, you need to specify the request in the form change X to Y and provide appropriate sources, that's it, no speeches, justifications or explanations are necessary.
- If you return the edit, it will be reverted again. Selfstudier (talk) 10:50, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- So your saying my request was in the wrong format? Or I can't make a request? Sorry I am new. Timeout22 (talk) 11:49, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- Below is your Hezbollah edit
- "Hezbollah, has played a substantial role in the Syrian civil war since it intervened in 2013 on the side of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Hezbollah’s involvement aimed to support Assad’s regime against various opposition groups, some of which were backed by Sunni-majority countries, including Saudi Arabia and Turkey. This intervention has been marked by significant human rights abuses and civilian casualties, including reports of attacks impacting children.
- Hezbollah’s forces have reportedly been involved in sieges, shelling, and ground assaults in Syrian cities and towns with high civilian populations, such as Homs, Aleppo, and the Damascus suburbs. Some human rights organizations and international observers have documented that indiscriminate bombings, targeting of civilian areas, and sieges led to severe civilian suffering, including among children, due to lack of access to food, medical care, and safe refuge. UNICEF and other humanitarian organizations have condemned the toll on children, who have been casualties of both direct attacks and the humanitarian crisis exacerbated by these prolonged sieges and blockades.
- While Hezbollah maintains it is fighting extremist groups in Syria, its actions have had widespread effects on the civilian population, leading to criticism from the United Nations, human rights organizations, and several governments. The situation remains complex, with various international actors involved and competing narratives on the conflict’s impact on civilians, including children. For more detailed reports on this topic, you may refer to sources such as Human Rights Watch and UNICEF.
- There are several Wikipedia pages on the subject."
- This is not an edit request, it doesn't say what it is you want changed or where it should go in the article. It cites no sources (Wikipedia is not a source). So, to invent a sample edit request:
- ==Edit Request==
- Please add "Hezbollah’s forces have reportedly been involved in sieges, shelling, and ground assaults in Syrian cities and towns with high civilian populations, such as Homs, Aleppo, and the Damascus suburbs." to Para 4 of the article (for example) Source: (some reliable source saying what I want added).

- Your latest request is also reverted, you cannot make an edit request asking that material sourced to 4 reliable sources is removed just because you don't agree with it and ask for material that has nothing to do with the article topic to be added. If you persist with this kind of editing, I will ask that you be blocked. I suggest you edit in less controversial areas that are not subject to editing restrictions until such time as you are more familiar with how Wikipedia works. Selfstudier (talk) 12:26, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- I am raising a concern. Your source is articles that you misrepresented. Mine is the original source. How are you reverting it! I will be raising a case! Timeout22 (talk) 12:32, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- I also am sharing this with the article that recently wrote you were part of a group of people hiding terrorism. I took screenshots. I also happen to know some people in the press. This is blatent changing of history. Timeout22 (talk) 12:34, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- Could you please a) confirm that there is an article that resulted in you believing that there are Wikipedia editors who are part of a group of people hiding terrorism b) provide a link to the article c) describe how you became aware of the article. - I looked the guy up when he started removing everything I wrote in talk and kept being confrontational. I wanted to know what to do. It came up in Google :). I was looking for how to report him. He obviously has an agenda. The last post was about weaponizing antisemitism. The source was odd. So I posted on the talk about the original source (THE UK GOV) not saying what the article was claiming. He immediately removed my post. like way too fast. So I did a quick google search. and guess what popped up. You have a problem! And now hes blocked me from posting because he doesnt like what I am saying which was just on the talk chain. None of which was controversial. Hes obvious anti semetic and pro terrorist. He wouldn't even post the content on another page about Hezbellahs ties to Syria on the Hezbollah page. He is also on here all the time. Who is paying for him to post all the time? How do you know it's not a team? The article made sense. Timeout22 (talk) 13:52, 26 October 2024 (UTC)

- Thanks. To clarify, you were blocked by ScottishFinnishRadish, a Wikipedia administrator because you were not complying with the WP:ARBECR rules that apply to the WP:PIA topic area. Selfstudier was enforcing the rules, something they do frequently in the topic area because people are not very good at writing simple straightforward edit requests. It is unfortunate that ECR enforcement has to be carried out by humans rather than machines because people think about intent when they are dealing with people, whereas they generally don't when dealing with machines. Sean.hoyland (talk) 14:02, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- I was confused by what I was doing. I asked for explanation. I am sorry. But this doesnt fix the underlying issue here. It's not just me who is having this issue. Timeout22 (talk) 14:06, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- The only way for editors such as yourself without the extended confirmed privilege to address perceived article content issues is to write a simple, straightforward edit request. Requests that follow the WP:EDITXY guideline are more likely to be accepted. If you re-read what Selfstudier wrote above with an open mind, you may see that they are trying to help you. They are a very experienced editor regardless of the degree of alignment between your views and theirs on real world matters. They provided an example edit request and told you something useful about the rules covering source removal. When someone offers you help here it is better to accept it because the PIA topic area is probably one of the most difficult topics to edit, hence all of the special rules. Sean.hoyland (talk) 15:19, 26 October 2024 (UTC)

- The article mentions hes posted 15K times in a year about just Palestine. Thats over 40 times a day. That doesnt include the articles on weaponizing antisemitism hes all over and who knows what else. How can anyone have enough time to do that as a hobby or a side editor? Timeout22 (talk) 14:05, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- Information about editor activity is public. You can see Selfstudier's editing statistics, or any other editor's statistics here. The statistics in the article you read cover the January 2022 and September 2024 period for edits within the PIA topic area, or rather an approximation of the PIA topic area used to generate statistical estimates. If you would like further background you can read through Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Clarification_and_Amendment#Amendment_request:_Palestine-Israel_articles_(AE_referral). Editors are, of course, free to choose which articles they work on, whether they want to help enforce ARBECR restrictions, whether they want to participate in content related discussions etc. If you would like to know how they have enough time to do that as a hobby you could simply have asked them, and they may have answered you.
