city in the Tel Aviv District of Israel

Bat Yam is a city in Israel and a working-class suburb of Tel Aviv. It has a population of about 130,000.

Understand

edit

The city's name means "daughter of the sea" (which is the Hebrew term for "mermaid"), as it is on the coast between Tel Aviv and Rishon LeZion.

Get in

edit

By train

edit

Bat Yam has two train stations:

  • 1 Bat Yam-Komemiyut railway station. This station opened in 2011 and there is a train every thirty minutes during the day. During rush hour, frequencies increase to one train every fifteen minutes. Bat Yam-Komemiyut Railway Station (Q2919557) on Wikidata Bat Yam-Komemiyut railway station on Wikipedia
  • 2 Bat Yam-Yoseftal railway station. Bat Yam-Yoseftal Railway Station (Q2919760) on Wikidata Bat Yam-Yoseftal railway station on Wikipedia

The train is aimed at commuters, and the stations are not near sites of interest. But unlike buses, the train does not get stuck in traffic. It might be most convenient if you are coming from other stations on the same line (Kfar Sava, Rosh Haayan, Petah Tikva, and southern cities like Ashdod and Sderot). There is onward bus service from both stations

By Light Rail

edit

The Red Line of the Tel Aviv Light Rail which travels from Petah Tikva via Ramat Gan and Tel Aviv has 9 stations in the city. The line does not cover all neighbourhoods of the city. For who travels to Bat Yam from the underground stations of the line in Tel Aviv pay attention that only Route R1 continues to Jaffa and Bat Yam (Route R3 terminates in Elifelet Station).

Get around

edit

The city is small, and often you can get from place to place on foot. But in the summer heat, you'll want to take a bus, car, or taxi even for short distances.

Dan operates a single local bus line (Line 6) but it's more recommended to take a bus headed for Tel Aviv or another part of the urban area.

The beaches are nice. Other than that, there is little of interest here.
