From Proto-Albanian *aukn-, from possibly Proto-Indo-European *h₂euk(ʷ)-sno- (pot), from the root *h₂ukʷ- ~ *Hukʷ-. Cognate e.g. to Sanskrit उखा (ukhā, pot), Gothic 𐌰𐌿𐌷𐌽𐍃 (auhns, oven), English oven.
