Once there was a king whose kingdom was in disarray. He hated wizards, but due to the current state of things, he had no choice but to summon a band of wizards of great renown. They came forth from all corners of his lands. With their apt knowledge of the arcane arts, surely they would know what to do.

People are finally catching up to the comic I drew for M83 last year. Marc Casilli mentioned it in an essay he just wrote on the relationship between comic art and pop music:
“And finally, some comic adaptations present incredibly innovative solutions to adapting music into comics. James and Zoe Harvey do a beautiful job of adapting M83’s Go! into what is almost a map of the music. The song is extremely layered, with rhythmic changes and 80’s-inspired synthesisers combined with digital production. The comic is equally layered, employs an extremely accentuated narration, uses plenty of 80’s-inspired aesthetics and has many digital traces, not to mention it is presented in what Scott McCloud calls “the infinite canvas” - a comic to be read horizontally instead of page-by-page, meant to be read on computer displays and tablets. All the lyrics are used, and presented exactly like in the song, in the same order, with the same repetitions. The panels tell a story that works with the lyrics, using panel layouts that can be confusing at first glance, but are very dynamic and follow the flow of the song perfectly. The comic even allows for a guitar solo, translating it into silent panels, which get progressively smaller and smaller, or faster and faster, before slowing down and leading back to the lyrics. This approach is an intelligent and effective way of translating sound into visuals while keeping all the defining characteristics of the original.”
People say to me, “I didn’t understand the story until I’d read it 5 or 6 times”, which is not usual for comics but is definitely the case with so many great pop songs- check any of Bowie’s or Dylan’s songs that tell a story, for example. N.B. you can read this comic here, or buy stuff related to it in m83′s store.

Went to Bergen Norway and some places out side of there for a few days recently and it was one of the prettiest places I have ever been. So many ridiculously beautiful fjords, rivers, mountains, moss everywhere, ah just great stuff. Awesome and nice people there as well. All around great country, A+ guys.
