![]() | o-gili asked: Hi. I just wanted to say that your composition guide is *excellent*. Clear, concise, and still comprehensive. The Composition tips PDF is not available on Gumroad anymore. Is there an alternative location? I'd like to share it with my daughter who isn't on social media because of her age. |
hey! glad to hear you appreciate it so much, thank you. i’ve taken down all my gumroad listings for the time being bc i’ve been having issues with receiving payouts from the platform :’^))
i’ll work on moving my digital listings to a different platform later this year- in the meantime, my tumblr post and deviantART page are probably the best place to grab the jpgs, and i have a ko-fi page up if you’d like leave a tip 👍 you can also email me (genicecreams@gmail.com) and i can manually send you the pdf and psd files haha
hope that helps!

it’s been a bit over a month since the news of don perro’s passing came out 😢 don was the founder of capilano’s animation programs, a good teacher, and deeply missed by so many.
i graduated from the cap program in 2018, and the dynamic my classmates and i had with don was different than most because he was on sabbatical for our first year. but even in his absence, his name and influence was all throughout the program.
when i was weighing my options for post-secondary schooling, capilano’s reputation among its alumni was striking to me- basically everyone i encountered spoke of its culture and community very warmly. it was hard to find negative reviews, when many of the more prolific schools i considered came with cautionary accounts of things like predatory tuition, overwork, abusive staff, etc.
capilano’s not perfect either of course- i think mileage varies for any student going into any kind of school. the program prioritizes training folks to work in vancouver’s animation scene, its faculty are human, the workload gets heavy, and so on. but here’s some things that stood out to me, when i was a student 7 years ago:
i’ve gone on to work as a lab supervisor at this school- my job is to hop on a zoom call for 3 hours every week to give feedback on student assignments, and chat through questions people have about building a creative career. as a student, the help i got from the lab supes was one of the things that made the program really stand out to me. it’s been an honor to have a chance to do something similar for others.
returning as a part of the faculty, i’ve got to see firsthand just how hard the program’s leadership sincerely tries their best to put students and their needs first. don initiated that spirit- he’d been gradually stepping back in recent years, but the direction he’s imparted on the program and everyone he works with is lasting and special. it takes on a life beyond him. he was always so proud to see that
