Truth and Treason is out this October

Angel Studios has released a trailer for their new historical action movie TRUTH AND TREASON which will open in cinemas October 17th starring  Rupert Evans, Ewan Horrocks, Ferdinand McKay, Daf Thomas and Sean Mahon. Originally enivisoned as a series but then turned into a movie, it revolves around Helmuth Hüebener, a 16-year-old boy whol forms a resistance group with his friends Karl and Rudi after witnessing the arrest of his Jewish friends by Nazis. Their brave actions lead them to face trial in Nazi Germany. Check out the trailer below for the film that was directed by Matt Whitaker and tell us what you think.

Scott Waugh's new action movie thriller RUNNER is rounding up cast with Rodrigo Santoro, Leila George and Oscar nominee Adriana Barazza joining Alan Ritchson and Owen Wilson. It follows  Hank Malone (Ritchson), a high-end courier faced with a harrowing, life-or-death mission: deliver an organ to a seven-year-old girl in need of an immediate transplant. The straightforward task rapidly devolves into a perilous game of cat and mouse, when the merciless leader (Santoro) of a notorious crime syndicate sets his sights on claiming the organ for himself.

STAR TREK SEASON 3 TEASER IS HERE

It seems it's been years since the second season, but Paramount + promises the third season of STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS science fiction series is finally arriving sometime this summer although we still do not have the official date set yet. They did release today a teaser announcing what we can expect from the new season. It is interesting that the fourth season is currently in production over in Canada. 

 

IN THE BRAND NEW SEASON

 Anson Mount returns as Captain Pike at the helm of USS Enterprise in the conclusion of season two’s scary battle with the Gorn which ended with a cliff hanger. Now, new life and civilizations await the crew, including a villain that will test our characters’ grit and resolve and take characters both new and beloved to new heights, and dive into thrilling adventures of faith, duty, romance, comedy, and mystery, with varying genres never before seen on any other Star Trek. As you can see there will be a retro murder mystery aboard the ship which will also see the return of Paul Wesley as James T. Kirk. Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Jess Bush, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Melissa Navia all return as regular crew members, alongside guest stars Rhys Darby, Patton Oswalt,and Carol Kane. The series will again stream on Paramount Plus and in some parts of Europe on SkyShowtime. Beside the fact that one of the episodes will see the crew of Enterprise turn Vulcan, we also know that Cillian O’Sullivan will be joining the new season as a recurring guest star, playing the legacy role of Dr. Roger Korby, a renowned archaeologist and scientist known for his groundbreaking work in the field of medical archaeology. Martin Quinn, as a young version of future Enterprise chief engineer Montgomery Scott will also be a regular now.

I told you last month that BBC is working with Catherine Shepherd on TWO WEEKS IN AUGUST thriller series that tells the story of a woman who goes on holiday to Greece with her family and friends to rediscover joy in her life. Zoe begins to act on her deepest desires and the holiday she hoped for becomes a reckoning for a group of adults who refuse to grow up. But when they discover they are trapped on the island, and become faced with real life-or-death situations, the group soon turn on each other to find out who is to blame. Now we know that Jessica Raine will star as Zoe, Damien Molony as her troubled husband Dan, Nicholas Pinnock as their old friend Solomon and Antonia Thomas as his new wife Jess, alongside Leila Farzad and Hugh Skinner as uni friends Nat and Jacob.

NEW TV SERIES HAS CAST ANNOUNCED

We are getting yet another TV series based on Arthur Connan Doyle's famous detective hero Sherlock Holmes. Harry King Television will start production on TRUE SHERLOCK next January with Oli Higginson already cast as Sherlock and Will Kemp as Moriarty. Based on Nicholas Sercombe’s book series The Unexpurgated Adventures of Sherlock Holmes this new series will depict the origins of Holmes, Watson, Mrs Hudson, and Professor Moriarty. Sercombe will also be the showrunner!

Last month I announced that Sam Worthington will lead Netflix TV series adaptation of Harlan Coben's I WILL FIND YOUas David Burroughs, an innocent father serving a life sentence for the murder of his own son, a crime he didn’t commit, yet a tragedy he punishes himself for every day. When David receives evidence that his child may still be alive, he must break out of prison to find out the truth. Now we know that Milo Ventimiglia has joined him as a man from prominent Boston family who finds purpose in working for his family’s philanthropic foundations. Britt Lower, Logan Browning, Erin Richards will also star as a reporter, an FBI investigator, and as David's ex wife, a pediatric surgeon. Jonathan Tucker will play his best friend.

Apple TV + has opened the new week with the first image of Jason Momoa in his epic new series CHIEF OF WAR and the start date set for August 1st when it will launch with first two episodes and then continue weekly.  The series depicts the unification and colonization of Hawai’i from an indigenous point of view with Momoa playing warrior Ka’iana, as he tries to unify the islands before Western colonization in the late 18th century.

I have to admit that I actually thought this one was coming up sometime later this year, but it turns out that it started airing in Italy in February and finished a week ago, so beside El Turco and Leopard we have another Italian costume drama to watch this spring.  Coming from Mariano Di Nardo, Antonio Manca and Federico Fava  BELCANTO eight part series set in 1798, had, it seems, quite nice viewing ratings in Italy with over 20% of viewership in the country tuning in to every episode. The actresses and actors do not sing in the series on their own, but have voices lent from operatic singers from Italy and it is interesting that the soundtrack of the series has

entered Italian music charts. The series was shot in the historic parts of Naples at the beginning of last year.

 

  THE STORY OF THE SERIES FOLLOWS

14-year-old Carolina (Adriana Savarese), her 17-year-old sister Antonia  (Caterina Ferioli) and their mother Maria (Vittoria Puccini) who seek refuge in the city of Milan after stabbing their violent father to death. The elder sister dreams of becoming a renowned singer, much as her mother once hoped for when she was the girl’s age. However, an unhappy and often violent marriage waylaid young Maria, who is now willing to go the extreme lengths to ensure that her daughter is afforded every opportunity withheld from herself. Maria’s intense focus on the beautiful elder sister leaves little attention or affection for young and ugly Carolina however, who more modestly only dreams of earning her mother’s affection. Things go upside down however when a well-respected singing teacher in the cosmopolitan city renowned for its music discovers that Maria’s youngest is the true talent in the family. The Italian bel canto opera movement flourished in the early 19th century and is exemplified by the operas of Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti and others. Literally “beautiful singing”, bel canto opera derives from the Italian stylistic singing school of the same name. Carmine Recano, Giacomo Giorgio, Vincenzo Ferrera and Nicolo Pasetti also star in the historical series.

ITV has set quite an interesting cast for their new high end espionage series SECRET SERVICE with Gemma Arterton and Rafe Spall leading the cast alongside Mark Stanley, Alex Kingston. This five part drama  The drama follows senior MI6 officer Kate Henderson (Gemma Arterton). On the surface, her life appears ordinary, a civil servant married to Stuart (Rafe Spall) with two teenage children. However, to those who don’t know her well, Kate’s true role is heading the Russia Desk at the Secret Intelligence Service. When her undercover operations reveal alarming evidence that a high-ranking UK politician may be a Russian asset, Kate finds herself in a desperate race to uncover their identity. As a brutal murder thrusts her team into the spotlight, Kate must navigate the dangerous world of espionage while trying to hold her family together and protect her reputation.

Two new series coming out today for your viewing pleasure this weekend. Over at Hulu out today is their new multicam sitcom from Will & Grace creators titled MID-CENTURY MODERN about three best friends, gay gentlemen of a certain age, played by Matt Bomer, Nathan Lane and Nathan Lee Graham, who, after an unexpected death, decide to spend their golden years living together in Palm Springs where the wealthiest one lives with his mother and a naked Gen Z housekeeper. As a chosen family, they prove that no matter how hard things get, there’s always someone around to remind you it would be better if you got your neck done! Linda Lavin, who recently died, is Bunny’s mother, Sybil whose strengths are her weaknesses: wise, caring, and iconoclastic, which sometimes means she’s critical, smothering and amoral!
