I’m Ashley Shew, assistant professor in the Department of Science and Technology in Society (STS) at Virginia Tech. I study philosophy of technology, applied ethics, animals in philosophy, and ethics of emerging tech. I also have two kids under the age of 5 and happily take advantage of Virginia Tech’s excellent programs for work-life balance!

I’m Meg Wallace, assistant professor at the University of Kentucky. I like to think about parts and wholes, ordinary objects, persistence, possible worlds, and metaphysics in general. Off hours, I monkey around on aerial silks or fabrics (pictured) or anything high flying in the circus gym. I also run and do yoga (but only the metaphysically responsible kind). I take my dog for long, manic, loud walks in the park, obey my cat, and dork out with my husband. I don’t eat anything that was, is, or will be cute.
My name is Chief Warrant Officer John Baldari (ret.) and I am an ABD at the University of Leeds Interdisciplinary Ethics Applied Centre for Excellence. I am a retired military officer with 21 years of experience teaching military ethics and mental resiliency to soldiers and candidates. I am an ethicist with research focused on virtue theory, military applied ethics, moral psychology, and philosophy of mind (identity). This is a photograph taken of me when I graduated Candidate School. It represents a dramatic turning point in my life when the picture I had of the world reshaped through philosophy. Philosophy is not lost in the ivory tower, it matters to all people every day, even those that choose to live and die by the sword.
