Discussion
editThis is not the same as Wikidata:Property_proposal/Place#MusicBrainz_area_ID. Area IDs basically are for settlements (villages/towns) and everything larger than that. Places however are for... places where some musical performance happens (concert halls, studios): we currently have 2 type of them, studios and venues. Places can be linked to releases (= albums) and recordings (= songs as they appear on albums). We currently have relationships along the lines of 'mastered at', 'mixed at' and 'recorded at'. - What would be the purpose of storing this ID? --Danrok (talk) 18:50, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
- The same purpose as all the other MusicBrainz IDs: linking to a website that provides detailed structured and machine readable information about places where musical events (concerts, studio recordings, etc.) happened. The Abbey Road Studios mentioned above have a (still growing, places have only been available in MusicBrainz for 10 days) list of performances. That's a really popular example but we also have smaller/less popular places like the St. Mary Magdalene Church in Wroclaw at [1] or the Kabarett im Hofgarten in Aschaffenburg at [2]. A map of all the currently existing places with coordinates is available at [3]. AFAIK Wikidata doesn't even have properties for mixing/mastering/recording location (yet?) --Mineo (talk) 08:57, 24 October 2013 (UTC)

MusicBrainz place ID (P1004) and MusicBrainz area ID (P982) don't become links, but MusicBrainz artist ID (P434) and MusicBrainz release group ID (P436) automatically get translated to a link to the correct MusicBrainz entity. What needs to be done so this works for these, too? Checking if the properties are correct is easiest with following a link and that link is also the best source. (I didn't add a separate source when adding these for that reason) --JonnyJD (talk) 23:57, 30 October 2013 (UTC)
Labels
editThis type of MusicBrainz ID is used for venues and studios in contrast to MusicBrainz area ID (P982), which is used for cities/towns, countries and similar. Finding the right label in different languages might not be easy. For some languages you can find the "official" translation on beta.musicbrainz.org, where you can change the language of the UI. For the german label there was some discussion in User talk:Kolja21#MusicBrainz-Place-ID (German_label). --JonnyJD (talk) 16:12, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
