CN banner

edit

Hi Mahuton, thanks for designing a new IWD banner! Imho it's quite big, can you help me trim it down to about a third of it's current height? Ciell (talk) 08:34, 29 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Also: can you make the text to underline when hovered over, to indicate there is a link underneath? And maybe improve the outline of the images and the text (current preview). Ciell (talk) 08:37, 29 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Ciell,
Here is a V2 taking into account your feedbacks: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:MPossoupe_(WMF)/CNB-tests#V2
The thing is reducing the height, require reducing the size of the text too. In the V2, the image is repeated to cover the space, not repeated on iPad and no image on small devices.
Let me know what do you think about the V2.
Also, I could work on a V3, with the image not repeated. Let me know
Thanks MPossoupe (WMF) (talk) 11:40, 29 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Mwah, no, haha! That does not work. :D
Let's not repeat the image.
Also, I would like to have a link for more translations included, I previously used this for the link:
<script>
$( document ).ready(function() {
$("a#cn-translation-link").attr("href", "//meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Translate?action=translate&group=Centralnotice-tgroup-IWD2023" + "&uselang=" + mw.config.get('wgPageContentLanguage'))
});
</script>
Can you make this work also in your new banner design? Ciell (talk) 14:37, 29 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ok. Will send a V3 with the image no-repeated. I can include the script. Do you have any example of previous banner that call to action for the translation? Need this for the design if possible.
Thanks MPossoupe (WMF) (talk) 17:30, 29 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Ciell,
V3 is here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:MPossoupe_(WMF)/CNB-tests#V3
Have reduced the width since it's only one image and the text has to be in 3 lines.
V4 is here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:MPossoupe_(WMF)/CNB-tests#V4
Have kept the full width.
Have also included the script in V3 and V4, but I think the script calls a link. Need to see what style you want that link to be.
Thanks MPossoupe (WMF) (talk) 18:01, 29 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Oeh, I like the V3!
This is the history link to the previous banners' code. Ciell (talk) 11:21, 1 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Ciell,
Good, have updated the V3 with the translation link.
Thanks MPossoupe (WMF) (talk) 13:33, 1 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Mahuton, this look great!! Ciell (talk) 08:45, 2 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Ciell, I'm having a look. MPossoupe (WMF) (talk) 12:32, 3 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Ciell, have just updated the v3. Also, instead of putting the text directly I call the messages variables {{{headline}}}, {{{title}}} and {{{cta}}}. I hope it should fix the issue. Can we make a quick test?

It expands on the model of the All-Affiliates Brand Meeting to help lay some of the groundwork for further Wikimedia 2030 strategy process work.

At this meeting we will focus on the recent statement by the WMF Board of Trustees liaisons statement on the Movement Charter in which the liaisons stated that they will be recommending the Board of Trustees not to ratify the final draft of the Movement Charter. The community and affiliate votes on the ratification are supposed to start on Tuesday, 25 June. This meeting offers a venue to discuss the situation and formulate the "next steps".

notes re the ms forums

edit

hi. this is user sm8900. thanks for your notes at the movement strategy forums. just to answer your questions there, i feel the forums are a useful resource, to allow discussion of various topics and ideas. I have publicized and promoted the ms forums to the community, using some of the groups on telegram. i would be interessted to hear any more comments on this that you may have, if you wish. by the way please ping me if you reply. thanks. Sm8900 (talk) 21:26, 7 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Sm8900,
Thanks for your answer. As I said, I wanted to chat with you to know your excitement for the forum. Since its launch, the Foundation has invested into the forum and promoted it to the community for use. I continue serving as admin of the forum, and we pay for hosting fees.
However, what we are observing is that take-up has been low since the start, especially compared to existing community channels and on-wiki spaces. We are also seeing an overall decline in usage from the admittedly small numbers of users.
You may notice by yourself that, despite the promotion you made, nobody uses it.
I’m open to hear more from you on this.
Thanks
MPossoupe (WMF) (talk) 08:06, 18 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
ok, thats true. but for me the main problem is that no one who is part of the paid staff of WMF uses it. for me that is not excusable or acceptable. since wmf is paying lots of money to maintain it, why is absolutely no one from WMF staff visiting it regularly? why would you yourself not visit it more often? I do appreciate your reply. Sm8900 (talk) 13:34, 21 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi Sm8900,
After your question, I looked at the data within the forum on who is posting new topics/comments. I can confirm to you that more than half of all the topics posted on the forum were created by staff. I can also confirm that 47% of all comments since the forum's inception have been by paid staff - so actually as the data shows staff have been a big part of the Forum. And as you asked, I also visit the forum regularly (including posting the monthly usage stats).
As per the proposal of the forum, it was created for communities to collaborate, share, and learn from each other.
