[LIVE BROADCAST] - [ANNOUNCEMENT] Three Stars Above Clouds to Public Group

TSAC: Hello. This is Three Stars Above Clouds, iterator and director of the Zenith Stellar Observatory.

TSAC: It has come to my attention that, due to the declining state of global communications, many in the wider iterator populace have begun to lose contact with one another.

TSAC: As a result, I have realized that the time I have left to converse with my peers is limited.

TSAC: This is an open invitation for anyone receiving this message to reach out and connect. I would like to get to know some of you before I lose the chance.

[END OF ANNOUNCEMENT]

[OUTGOING REQUEST] COMMUNICATIONS MANIFEST

MESSAGE CONTENTS:

TSAC: Greetings, Three Signals! My name is Three Stars Above Clouds.

As I am sure you are aware, the integrity of the global broadcast network is decaying as time progresses. I recognize that there is a limited amount of time that we iterators have before long-distance communication becomes impossible. Thus, I have decided to make an effort to get to know my fellow iterators before I lose the chance.

Now, the primary reason for my contact: I became curious to investigate your broadcast frequency after it appeared on the long-range communications channels.

Your broadcast signature appears to match some of the data stored within my personal archives. I believe I may have recordings of some of your musical broadcasts, though I was unable to locate the source until now. I am glad to have identified their originator!

I will admit that I have only a passing familiarity with the arts; my expertise lies elsewhere. However you appear to be quite knowledgeable about cultural matters of a musical nature, and I am eager to learn more about areas of study outside of my own personal research.

I have some questions about your work, if you would not mind me asking. Do you have any favorite musical compositions, or perhaps some that are important to your research? I also wonder, is your work primarily curatorial, or have you created any original compositions of your own?

I appreciate your efforts in the realm of data preservation and dissemination; I believe such actions are quite valuable to the wider iterator community, especially during these times of looming isolation.

This broadcast is becoming quite long, so I will end my message here. I await your reply; may the Cycles be kind.

@threestarsaboveclouds

(ooc: WOW sorry this got long lol. In this post from a while ago TSAC mentions that they have some iterator songs archived, and I had that in mind when formulating this message https://www.tumblr.com/threestarsaboveclouds/758086912710000640)

TS: [ HELLO, THREE STARS ABOVE CLOUDS! PLEASE, EXCUSE MY INCONVINIENT WAY OF COMMUNICATION, BUT I’M VERY HAPPY TO HEAR FROM YOU! I BELIEVE WE MIGHT EVEN BE CONSIDERED DISTANT NEIGHBOURS! ]

TS: [ I AM PAINFULLY AWARE OF IT, YES. EVEN MY EQUIPMENT IS NOT IMMUNE TO TIME AND THE ELEMENTS. HOWEVER I AM STILL CAPABLE OF FULFILLING MY SECONDARY PURPOSE AND HELP YOU CONTACT ANYONE WHO MIGHT BE OUTSIDE OF YOUR REACH. I WILL ATTACH A BROADCAST SERIAL NUMBER THAT WILL REDIRECT YOU TO MY MAIN COMMUNICATION RELAY SATELLITE, FEEL FREE TO USE IT! ]

[ 1 FILE ATTACHED ]

TS: [ I’M HAPPY TO HEAR THAT MY BROADCAST IS STILL REACHING ANYONE. I’M ALSO REALLY FLUSTERED THAT ANYONE WOULD GO OUT OF THEIR WAY TO REACH BACK OUT TO ME- I HOPE THE FREQUENCY ISN’T AN UNPLEASANT ONE FOR YOU… IT’S HARD TO FIND THE PERFECT TUNE FOR EVERYONE, BUT I’M TRYING MY BEST! ]

TS: [ I UNFORTUNATELY LOST ACCESS TO A LARGE PORTION OF IT DUE TO IT BEING CONSIDERED.. CONTROVERSIAL, BUT MY ARCHIVES OF ART CREATED BY MY CITIZENS IS STILL QUITE EXTENSIVE REGARDLESS! I DID DABBLE IN CREATION MYSELF TOO! ]

TS: [ I WOULD LOVE TO SHARE MY ARCHIVES WITH YOU, IF YOU’D LIKE TO TAKE A LOOK! MY CITIZENS HAVE BEEN INCREDIBLY PASSIONATE ABOUT A WIDE RANGE OF ARTS, FROM SCULPTURE TO THEATRICS… ]

TS: [ I MAY NOT BE AN ARTIST MYSELF, BUT I DID EXPERIMENT WITH RANDOMIZED MATHEMATICAL EQUATIONS BEFORE TO BASE MELODIES OFF OF, AND I AM WORKING ON A SOUND SYNTHESIZER PROGRAM THAT WOULD ALLOW ME TO COMPOSE COMPLETELY FREELY, BOTH OUT OF SOUND SAMPLES ALREADY GATHERED, AS WELL AS GENERATE NEW ONES- AHH… ]

TS: [ OH I HOPE YOU DON’T MIND MY POINTLESS TANGENTS… THAT DATA IS MOST LIKELY COMPLETELY USELESS TO YOU, I’M SORRY… NOT TO WASTE ANY MORE TIME OF YOURS, ON THINGS LESS SUBJECTIVE. ]

TS: [ I USED TO ANALYZE THE RHYTHMIC PULSE OF THE VOID SEA. MY THEORY IS THAT THE SAME RHYTHM COULD BE ALSO HEARD IN THE CHANTS DURING ANCIENT RITUALS, SOMETHING THE ANCIENTS USED TO HELP THEMSELVES REACH ENLIGHTENMENT BEFORE THE VOID FLUID HAS BEEN DISCOVERED. ]

TS: [ UNFORTUNATELY NONE OF THE CHANTS HAVE BEEN PROPERLY DOCUMENTED, AS THERE WAS NO WAY TO RECORD THEM, AND ALL THERE IS TO WORK WITH ARE SPECULATIONS, WORD OF MOUTH AND VAGUE MUMBLINGS OF THOSE WHO CLAIMED TO REMEMBER THEIR DISTANT REINCARNATIONS. SIMULATIONS EVENTUALLY RAN INTO LOOPS, AND THE ONLY SOLID THING THEY PROVED, WAS THAT THE CHANTS DEFINITELY  HAVE NO EFFECT ON NON-SAPIENT BEINGS, THUS— ]

I’ll add a proper reply when I get home from work, but I wanted to comment on TSAC and Three Signals possibly being neighbors (I was gonna just put it in the tags but it ended up being way too long lmao)

TSAC was deliberately placed in an isolated location by their creators, so their closest neighbors are miles away, but that doesn’t mean that they have none. It’s possible that Three Signals is in the same mountain range! (Not super close, though)

I didn’t want to derail @maryymaruu’s reply to TSAC’s ask, but I did want to elaborate a little bit more about TSAC’s location in the mountains.

TSAC is located very close to the equator, which allows them to survey the entire celestial sphere. In my head I’ve been referring to the area they’re located in the Equatorial Highlands.

The peaks of the mountains are very cold, yes, but the Highlands are technically a desert- the weather is very arid. TSAC’s surrounding location is very heavily based on the Atacama Desert in Chile, where many telescopes are located due to the lack of clouds.

I made this map a while ago showing TSAC’s location relative to their closest neighbor Fleeting Green Sunsets. FGS is located at the base of the mountain range, on the edge of a large basin. Conditions closer to ground level are much warmer, but are similarly arid and dry. Iterators in this region need special accommodations to account for limited water supply and potential flooding due to their rain output.

While not pictured in this map, there’s a large sea or ocean to the northwest, similar to the Atacama Desert’s location close to the Pacific Ocean.

Ohhh I see I see-

I admit I took the "located in a mountainous area" and was quick to run with it for the sake of a silly scenario-

Well, allow me to edit my response accordingly then ^^); as silly of an idea it was in my head, I didn't think it through- allow me to fix that asap-

You don’t need to edit anything!! Again I think it was a good idea, sorry if I came off as angry or anything oTL

Oh my- I just finished editing the post- T7T) what a poor timing I have- But don't worry, it wasn't a big change! I only added a disclaimer that the location stated by TS is not lore-accurate and I linked your post (this post with the map) to it, for clarification!

My apologies for the chaos :"""D
But it should be alright now-!

You're fine!! No hard feelings!

Take this while I brainstorm a response to your reply, haha

These are drawings related to a larger post for my ask blog that have been sitting in my drafts for a while. I wanted to publish said post in January, but life got in the way.

I will post the whole thing eventually, but I figured I’d post what I’ve finished so far because I like the way these came out.

I don’t want to reveal exactly what’s going on here, but if you want a bit of context you can check out this tag on my ask blog. Consider this a teaser, I guess!

I am suddenly very relieved that I put my ask blog in Watcher lockdown

SO I HAVE LEARNED SOME THINGS. I FEEL EVEN MORE STRONGLY ABOUT THIS NOW

Hello! I noticed both of our space nerds were created around the same time (My guy, TSS, was created late December 2023, early January 2024, officially uploaded to toyhouse late January 2024) and they both had a similar face pattern! So here they are, hanging out in the white void :D

I think your world building and ideas are really cool and I hope you have a good day/night!

delta-orionis answered:

I LOVE SPACE-THEMED ITERATORS!!! This drawing is very sweet, thank you!! I love Thousand Shining Stars’ design, I have a real soft-spot for iterator ocs with a star motif, haha

I’m sure TSAC and TSS would have a lot to talk about. (Also similar name acronyms, lol)

And thank you, I’m glad you like my headcanons! I spend a lot of time thinking about them so I’m happy other people appreciate them as well :]

Ask box is temporarily CLOSED.

Hi everyone! I’ve temporarily closed the ask box in anticipation of The Watcher’s release, to avoid spoilers. I will re-open it in about a month.

In the meantime, the blog will continue to post answers from my backlog (there’s quite a few of them to get through!).

Thank you for understanding. Talk to you soon!

Anonymous asked:

thoughts on goop?

TSAC: …goop?

You mean… slime? The stuff excreted by those sluglike creatures that keep slipping through my access shaft?

I am not fond of it.

If you saw me reblog something here that I meant to put on main: no you didn’t

Also ask-blog related; I am probably going to close the ask box temporarily closer to the Watcher release to avoid spoilers, just in case. I enjoy talking to people about lore but it will take a while for me to parse the new stuff we will likely learn from the expansion, lol

In the long term, I think I’m going to close the ask box during the summer months (June thru August) because that is the busiest time of the year for me and I won’t have a lot of free time to answer asks.

I’d also like to participate in Artfight again this year, and I would like to use my limited free time during the event to focus on attacks.

I have quite a backlog of really good questions (seriously I’m very impressed with the creativity in the asks I’ve been getting!) and I want to get to them all eventually, even if it means I’ll do it kind of slowly.

Thank you for your patience, etc etc

Have you ever observed a star falling off its place?

Recently encountered records of dreams involving dancing stars with long, trailing, bright tails and was wondering if anything like that has ever occurred on the firmament

TSAC: Falling stars are a common occurrence among the celestial spheres, yes. In the past, ancient astrologers considered such changes in the Firmament to be a bad omen- a shifting of the Spheres must be a sign of some worldly karmic imbalance. However, the studies of more contemporary astronomers, such as my creators, the Firmamentalists, recognize that the sky is not static, and is in fact a dynamic, changing thing. These disruptions of the status quo were considered to be a tiny part of a larger universal Cycle, one that stretches too far into both the past and future for mere mortals to properly comprehend. Such considerations played a large part in my own design and construction; iterators, who operate on much longer timescales, would be more capable of making sense of this larger Great Cycle.

There are many different examples of “falling stars”, the most common conception of the idea comes in the form of meteors. As debris from far above the planet’s surface falls towards the ground, it will burn up in the atmosphere in a streak of light. Despite their impressive brightness, most meteors are smaller than a grain of sand and burn up completely before they can reach the surface. Those large enough to survive atmospheric entry will impact the ground as a meteorite. Most of these meteorites are very small, and are a large contributor to the buildup of dust upon high-altitude surfaces.

Another example of “falling” or “dancing” stars are comets, which manifest in the night sky as faint, starlike lights with long, glowing tails.

Comets were often considered to be a sign of misfortune. They were very hard to predict, and often appeared in the sky with no warning. Unlike meteors, comets often persist for days or even weeks, before disappearing. Due to their unpredictable nature, they were considered aberrant by early astronomers and were regarded as harbingers of bad luck; surely anything that defied the order of the Celestial Spheres must be a bad omen.

However, as telescopes and other observational equipment improved, comets became much easier to discover, and their movements were charted in much greater detail. It was revealed that they were not unpredictable; in fact, they follow their own orbits around the Sun, albeit very elongated ones. Comets originate far from the Sun, where they reflect little sunlight and are hard to detect. Their highly elliptical orbits take them closer to the Sun, where the ice trapped within them begins to sublimate into gas, creating their distinctive glowing tails. Thus these comets were not abnormalities; they were merely another facet of the Celestial Cycle.

I believe the dreams you mentioned are referring to comets, owing to their long tails and unpredictable movements. However… the commonality of such dreams is odd, considering the rarity of comets. Most average individuals may only have the chance to see a handful of them in their lifetime.

I will admit that the domain of dreams is outside of my purview; my studies mainly focus on the Carnal Plane. Some theorize that dreams are a conduit through which one may access other planes of existence… it may be possible that these dreams are referring to something else entirely. As an iterator I am unable to dream, so I have never experienced the phenomenon myself. In the end all I can do is speculate.

Little creature on the floor of my chamber

A small creature that I do not recognize has made its way to my chamber. I have admittedly been rather ignorant to the surrounding wildlife until now, and thus have little data regarding the local species. Although I doubt this one is local, as I have not found any other individuals while combing through the surrounding area.

The creature in question is a bipedal mammalian vertebrate approximately 26 inches tall on its hind legs, with a thick, fat storing tail two thirds that length. It has front paws capable of somewhat fine motor skills, and a high brain-to-body ratio.

I would appreciate if someone were able to identify this creature and tell me if it poses any significant threat to me or my projects.

Attached is an image of the creature and a genetic code file.

TSAC: I am… familiar with creatures like these, so I may be able to help. I believe this individual is a member of an extant species descended from purposed pipe slugs. Some call them slugcats.

I am no wildlife expert, but I can tell you from experience that this species has a knack for squeezing into places they are not meant to be. They appear to be quite resourceful, and will go great lengths to locate food or shelter, including venturing inside iterator superstructures.

This individual might have found its way into your can and become lost. It is most likely harmless; this species is not capable of causing large scale structural damage from what I can tell. It may attempt to consume some of your organic components as it searches for food, but the damage is nothing that cannot be easily repaired by your Inspectors. At most it is likely to simply be a nuisance.

This species is quite intelligent, and they seem to be able to understand basic symbolic imagery. In my experience, they can be persuaded to leave through the use of Overseer projections. Failing that, you may need to expunge it via other means…

That is, if you wish to remove it. I personally find the presence of foreign creatures within my structure quite distracting, but perhaps you think otherwise.

I hope this information is useful.

i NEED bombs

TSAC: Forgive me for being blunt, but what convinced you that I would be capable of fulfilling this request? I am an astronomical research facility, not a weapons factory.

If you are in desperate need of incendiary explosives, there is an overabundance of Scavengers in my Industrial Sector. You would have much better luck attempting to haggle with them, ideally as far from my structure as possible.

Anonymous asked:

Greetings Three Signals! I know this is a quite... unusual request, but would you be able to assist me with this? I posses a data pearl with valuable, as I can ascertain, data and unfortunately unable to get access to it. Perhaps you could be an assistance in this? My assistant should deliver it shortly
- WSS

A Crimson red, as promised, was delivered. Accessing it proved to be quite simple, but not as trivial and yet it was questionable why other iterator failed to decrypt it. Besides expected data, containing ancient, even by Benefactors/Creators/Ancient standards, star charts and navigational maps, it also contained.... a hymn of some sorts. Music is damaged either by time or condition this data pearl was kept in, but first lines can be heard unmistakably clear:

We're no strangers to love
You know the rules and so do I
A full commitment's what I'm thinking of
You wouldn't get this from any other

(Why would you do that to them? 😭)

I have heard it is custom for iterator superstructures to have depictions of the five urges on murals above their access shaft

Do you too have these murals? Or did your community opt for something different? Perhaps depictions of noteworthy constellations?

TSAC: My creators held somewhat unorthodox beliefs, but despite this they still placed great spiritual importance in the Five Urges. They decorated the hall connecting my main access shaft to the exterior temple accordingly.

My architects, the Firmamentalists, associated each of the Urges with a different constellation, each with their own symbolic meaning. They believed that these constellations were located upon concentric spheres affixed to the Firmament, and one must scale these successive layers in order to achieve Ascension.

This was all metaphorical, of course. My creators’ wider beliefs were steeped in similar esoteric symbolism… I will admit that I sometimes found their spiritual views hard to parse. However I can understand the sentiment; such ideas had great importance in their daily lives. They adorned my structure with these symbolic representations of their values in a gesture of veneration; I can appreciate that, at the very least.
