- Reviewed in the United States on November 1, 2022I have Oleander Key Words for Spanish, French, and also their 3-in-1 Italian, Spanish, and French book. I absolutely love these and use them each morning before my language-exchanges, quickly working through the first several pages mentally to prepare myself with the most essential vocabulary, and gradually learning the more advanced vocabulary. One of my favorite features of these other books is that all of the irregular verbs are conjugated in the present tense, so it's a bonus great practice to quiz myself on. I was a little disappointed that this German vocab book doesn't have the conjugations, but I'm glad I bought it anyway.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2014These books are absolutely fantastic! I have one for German, French, Latin, and Classic Greek and I can honestly say that they are truly invaluable for all those who are serious about learning the language. Yes, there are some occasional errors that someone should have picked up on (a few words here and there that aren't translated as properly as they could be), but I challenge anyone to find a book--not to mention one this affordable--that will lay out the most common words (in order of frequency), fantastically and logically organized into sections of around 20 per section--thus setting the stage to maximize efficiency and effectiveness in the least amount of time--that can even come close to these. Again, a must for all those serious about language (and not so serious as well).
- Reviewed in the United States on September 4, 2006This book provides a general idea about which words are common in the German language, so in this respect it's OK. The bad thing about it is that there are TONS of mistakes; out of the 2000 words (of which many are mentioned several times, so it's not really 2000 words), about every tenth entry provides you with the wrong inflection of the given word.
I really can't recommend this book to anyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very useful way of extending your vocabulary, if not your grammar.
Simple and straightforward book, with words arranged in units of 20 or so. Nothing you wouldn't find in a dictionary or thesaurus, but the page-by-page approach helps to work through it without getting bogged down.

A straightforward guide to the basic words, based on decent research. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars To me it's a great way to get started or revise for a language
I have the Italian and French versions of this book. To me it's a great way to get started or revise for a language. A good vocabulary is a foundation of learning a new language.
