最大の見どころは、クムジャ役、イ・ヨンエの演技だろう。つねに無表情を装いながら、自分が決めた計画をひとつひとつ遂行していく。その容赦ない行為は、あまりに冷徹なため、観る者の背筋を凍らせるものがある。復讐完遂までのプロセスには、過去の2作以上にショッキングで生々しい描写も用意。ただし、衝撃を高めようとするあまり、強引に感じられる部分があるのも事実だ。『オールド・ボーイ』の主要キャストら、チャヌク監督作に出演した俳優たちが、わずかなシーンで強烈な存在感を放ち、復讐劇にスリルを加味している。（斉藤博昭）

    クムジャさんは、我が子の心の美しさや素直に母を慕う子供らしさに、白いケーキの心の美しさになれたかな。そしてやはり、子供の父を愛してしまうんだわ。それが白いお豆腐を食べるのではなくて、夫として、父として、打たれていく狂信者と誓う母心なんですね。親切なクムジャさんは、ありがとうございます。

    「復讐劇」と聞いただけで、私はちょっとヒいてしまう。
    デュマの「巌窟王」みたいに勧善懲悪の痛快劇なら話しは別だが、昨今の「復讐劇」は、あれこれやって復讐しても、誰も救われないだからだ。
    「復讐なんかしても何もいいことないんですよ」ってお説教されているようなものばかりじゃん？（何って作品かは言わないけどさあ・・・）
    だから、この「親切なクムジャさん」が評判になり、いろいろな人から勧めてもらっても、食指が動かなかった。子供が犠牲者というのもそれに拍車をかけた。
    しかし・・・

    主演のイ・ヨンエが美しい。
    ただ美しいだけではなく、喜怒哀楽の表情がいずれもくっきりと印象に残る。
    私個人の印象としては、どんな美人で演技の巧い女優さんでも喜怒哀楽のうちの「喜」「楽」はよく表現出来ても、「哀」「怒」が下手だったり、その逆だったりするものだけど、この人はいずれもはっとするほど生き生きしている。「親切な」が頭につく人柄である彼女の、慈愛に満ちた笑顔を見せながら、後半の冷酷な表情。無理がなく、わざとらしさもなく、淡々と演じているのがスゴい。

    クライマックスで彼女がみせる壮絶な笑顔（泣きながら）は、まさに紅蓮の炎に身を焦がす般若・鬼女、そのものである。
    その表情だけでも必見。

    音楽もすばらしい。
    どの場面にも、効果的な音楽が使われ、場面を盛り上げる。

    残酷ではある。
    だけど、それ故に哀しく、哀しい故に「美しい」。
    愛する者を持つということで、人間はこれほどに残忍になれるものなのか。
    そして、残忍さは神に赦されるのか。
    「天使の通り過ぎる時間」、人々の胸を去来するものを考える時、残忍な復讐に対するなんらかの「答え」否、「応え」がそこにある気がする。
    答えはご覧になった方々、それぞれの胸の中ににだけあるものだろう。

    そしてラストシーン。
    「さようなら　クムジャさん」
    美しいラストが胸に迫る。

    パク・チャヌク監督の「復讐三部作」完結編です。
    クムジャさんが復讐しなければならない動機が、前二作に比べて僅かに弱いような気もするのですが、
    その下準備はぞっとするほど念入りに行われていました。
    「親切」によって多くの協力者を得、遂に相手を捕らえます。
    一対一で復讐が為されるのかと思いきや、
    その先に新たな展開があり、クムジャさんの「親切さ」が遺憾なく発揮されます。

    もし自分であれば、同じ境遇、同じ教室にいれば・・
    やはり同じ選択をすることになるのでしょう。

    あのケーキには ? が塗りこめられているのだと思います。
    仇敵を食べてしまう発想は古代中国から綿々と続いていますね。

    イ・ヨンエさんは念願の青龍映画祭主演女優賞を獲得しました。
    納得の、入魂の演技です。

    最後に、カメオ出演者の多さは韓国映画史上随一でしょう。
    二度劇場に行ったのに、
    イ・デヨンさんとリュ・スンワンさんがまだ解りません。
    DVDで探してみます。
    発売が待ち遠しいですね。

    私は今頃になって復讐３部作を順に観ているマイペース者です。
    どんな作品も他と比べれば必ずや過不足な感想をもってしまうものですよね。だから、例えばこの作品において多くの方の言われる甘さや足りなさみたいなものも、何故そう感じられる場面が多いのか（作られた国の歴史や事情ふまえて）少しだけ判る気がします。けれど私は充分に楽しめました。この作品が放つ独特の匂いはー赤とも黒とも、いいえ白とも見分けのつかないー色香のごとく、充分に最後まで堪能出来ました。

    話は遠回りしますが...いつも他の人の感想を読むたびに思うのですが、どうしてその（何かのきっかけでせっかく出逢えた）作品自体を、純粋に、シンプルに受け止める間口が無いのでしょう？
    自国の作品でも他国の作品でも、もっと判りやすく言えば自主制作でもハリウッド作品でも、いちいち比較して足りなさや欠点を粗捜ししていたら、そんな点はあらゆる作品に見つかると思うんです。
    そりゃ我が国でも売れっ子使って「客寄せしか考えてないのか!?」みたいな作品もたまに在るとは思うのですが...　まあ若い人は若い作品しか作れないかも知れないし、それでいいかも知れないし、或る意味順風漫歩な道を歩んだ者がいくら頭で描いたところで実際は甘いものしか表現出来ないのはコレ、私達の身の回りでも映画界でも同じ事だと思うんです。

    私達はレビューを書く時や、他人にものを紹介する時に、同時に（無意識に）自己確認もしているし啓発にもなろうというもの。知人や友人、親や恋人に対しても同じことで、他と比較ばかりしていたら幸せは遠去かってしまうでしょう。不満もあろう。でも好みだった点やつい微笑んでしまったとか呑み込まれてしまったとか、楽しめた点だって必ずあるものです。人の心はいつだって一つじゃない筈ですよね。ネットの特性だからといって匿名でけなすより、むしろ不満と満足との両極を語って欲しいです。その方がソコにその人が感じられ、温度があっていいと思うのです！
    私自身が30代後半まで（無意識に）小意地悪な視点で世間を、世界を、見ていたから...いろいろ痛い経験をして今になってこんな風に思うのかも知れません。「シンプルに吸収したい」ってー

    韓国映画は、以前辛い別れをした相手が夢中になっていたのでついつい避けて来ました。気になっていたのに何年も“観ない”選択をしてきてしまったのです。いつだって他に観たい映画も沢山あったし。
    しかし何がきっかけだったのだろう...たしか『シークレット・サンシャイン』での役者の演技に感動したのが始まりだったのかな...要するに何かが伝わって来たのです。”癒し”とか”泣き”とか甘く単純な売りではない役者や作り手の“熱”と言えばいいのでしょうかー

    こに復讐３部作については「韓国映画を改めて見直した」とかじゃなく、やはりコレはコレ。パク・チャヌク監督を凄いと思ったし、主要人物達を演じた俳優等の熱っぽさが（暑苦しくなる手前で!?）ビンビン伝わって来て、一言で言ってしまえば「好きだな〜」です。「復讐しても魂の浄化は出来ませんよ」というメッセージが込められていると読んだ方も多いかも知れませんが、私は（そんなメッセージを求めて観たかも知れないのに!）観終わった後には一生懸命作られた作品に対しての"満腹感!"で一杯でした。

    映画は映画！（金子みすゞ式にまとめてしまえば）色々あってみんないい。（若い時は、自分の人生の時間なんて無数にある様な気がしてしまうものだけど、）実は誰でも限られた人生の時間の中、色んな映画を観れるってことはとっても幸せなことの一つだと思います。

    私が今まで観た中で、最高の映画です！
    復讐ものなので、観ていて辛いようなシーンは幾つもあるのに、その全てがとても美しいんです。場面構成や色使い、人物の配置なども非常に凝っていて、ひと場面ひと場面が絵になります。
    内容は後味が少し悪いけど、何所かスッキリするような、不思議な感覚がして引き込まれます。オールドボーイも凄かったですが、クムジャさんの方が感動的です。私はいつも泣きながら観てます。
    ゴシックやティム'バートンさんの作品など好きな人には特にオススメ出来ます。

    If you're reading this, odds are that you've seen some of Park Chan-Wook's other films, particularly 'Oldboy'. Suffice to say, if you liked 'Oldboy' I can't imagine why you wouldn't like 'Lady Vengeance' as well, nor do I believe that this movie will convert you if you aren't already a fan. A few people will try and tell you that this is actually quite different from Park's last film, but I really don't know where they get this conclusion. 'Lady Vengeance' has unusual, stylish and artfully composed shots, surrealist inserts, skewed chronology and storytelling, themes of revenge, loss, family and reunification and an unpredictable mix of abrupt violence, black humor and surprising pathos. In short, it has all the stylistic trademarks that defined 'Oldboy'. It does, as the film moves along, eventually venture into more purely bleak pastures somewhat reminiscent of 'Sympathy...' in tone, but overall it still reminds far more of it's direct predecessor than of that other film. Arguably, it isn't much of a step forward from `Oldboy' in terms of style or content, but few people can pull off a film like this the way that Park can, so he's allowed to spin his wheels a bit if he so desires.

    `Lady Vengeance' follows the exploits of Geum-ja, a convicted child-killer who is just, as the film opens, released from prison after 13 years. She seemed to undergo a miraculous transformation in prison, converting to Christianity and earning herself the nickname, `The kindhearted Geum-Ja. This proves not to be a ruse, however, and upon her release Geum-ja immediately begins a quest for vengeance against one Mr. Baek, calling upon her various prison `friends' for help. Needless to say, it gets a lot more specific than that, but I don't want to give it away, even if it is more impressive in how it is shown, rather than the particular story which is being told

    `Lady Vengeance' is strikingly well made and slick, particularly for a non-Hollywood film. It's just gorgeous looking, with strong performances all around and a fine, seemingly inappropriate score which is alternately ironic and legitimately emotional. Though it's often violent and bleak, `Lady Vengeance' is simply a ton of fun to watch, particularly for the first hour or so. It has so much energy, style and humor that it's irresistible, and more flat-out watchable and entertaining than just about anything else I've seen this year. Furthermore, when they later go for a more serious, emotional tone, Park and company pull it off beautifully, and with out totally abandoning the flash and humor which made the first 2/3 of the movie so entertaining. Many people will tell you that Park's films are hollow and devoid of humanity, but I don't agree. I suppose I can see their position, as so many of his characters are far removed from anyone in the real world, but I don't have much trouble relating, and I think many of the later scenes are genuinely moving.

    Well, I'll just cut myself off here, I think. This is just a great movie. Best one released in American theaters yet this year, in fact. Check it out.

    When I was initially introduced to Park's first Vengeance film, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, I was expecting either a gory thriller reminiscent of David Cronenberg or an over the top violent flick often seen with Quentin Tarrentino. In my mind those were about the only two categories modern thrillers ever seem to fit into, they would either glorify violence blatantly or show it for what it was without allowing it to have an effect on the viewer. By the time I had finished that particular film I had already reconsidered by previous disposition. I had never viewed anything that was so stylish, yet at the same time so ugly and disturbing. Park was able to attain everything that Tarrentino likes to call his own, and then go beyond that and establish a sincere anti-violence statement, which was able to show the negative effects that violence has on all human beings involved.

    The same occurred with Park's highly stylish sequel entitled Oldboy. While that film was much less powerful, and seemed to lack the political commentary, it offered another refreshing and original vision from a new and seemingly accomplished director. I won't go into detail in comparing the films, but they each offered highly stylized cinematography, as well as adequate substance to allow for an intellectual reward upon multiple viewings.

    Admittedly I had some initial trouble with Park's third installment, he seemed to go in an entirely different direction, and it seemed as if he was uncertain where he was going. Lady Vengeance offered many of the same traits and characteristics of the two aforementioned films, but the substance seemed mismatched and ambiguous of point. I gave it a fair rating, and I admired it for a lot of what it tried to do, but never really understood the film. However, upon a subsequent viewing I was able to see how sophisticated and developed the film was, more so than its two counterparts, and much more so than anything from contemporary American cinema. The macabre style comedy was done in ways that tore you between laughter and genuine shock, the plot was both touching and disturbing and the overall cinematography, dialog and acting were all flawlessly encompassed in the plot.

    I won't summarize it, as it has so often been done in other reviews, but it remains to be one of the best thrillers of the modern day, and perhaps even all time for that matter. Park gives us something that is both original, and fair to its predecessors.

    "Lady Vengeance" ist zum einen die Geschichte eines bösen Menschen Mr. Baek (Choi Min-Sik), der als angesehener Bürger seinen Beruf als Lehrer ausübt. Doch in ihm steckt der Tyrann und Sadist, ein Vergewaltiger, Kidnapper und Kindesmörder.
    Seine Schülerin Lee Guem-Ja (Lee Yeong Ae) gesteht aber diesen Mord, der sich im Jahr 1991 ereignet und riesige Empörung in den Medien auslöst. Nicht nur die abscheuliche Tat selbst und die Jagd nach dem Mörder. Vor allem herrscht Entsetzen als sich ein hübsches, engelhaft wirkenden Mädchen, der man nachsagt sie habe Ähnlichkeit mit der Schauspielerin Olivia Hussey, als Mörderin herausstellt.
    Dem Kommissar Detective Choi (Nam Il-Woo) kommen aber bei der Vernehmung Zweifel, weil die junge Frau die richtige Farbe des Lieblingsspielzeug des Kindes, eine Murmel, nicht mehr weiss.
    Obwohl der Junge diese immer mit sich trug und diese auch beim Tatort gefunden wurde. Doch der Fall will wegen der Öffentlichkeit zum Abschluß kommen und Lee Guem-Ja wandert lebenslänglich ins Gefängnis.
    Dort wandelt sich laut dem Anstaltspfarrer das Mädchen zum gütigen, christlichen Engel. Der Priester ist überzeugt, dass er den Engel in ihr nach vorne gebracht und die Hexe vertrieben hat.
    So wird sie 2004 entlassen und noch am selben Tag merkt der Priester, dass alles nur Schein war. Lee Guem-Ja hat alles dafür getan, wieder nach draussen zu gelangen und einen perfiden Racheplan zu verfolgen.
    Alles ist genauestens geplant, die Frau hat für ihre Rache einige ihrer ehemaligen Zellengenossinnen, die inzwischen draussen sind, als Komplizen gewinnen können. Während sie in einer Bäckerei eine Anstellung bekommt und den wesentlich jüngeren Geun-Shik ( Kim Si-Hoo) kennenlernt, der schwer auf die erfahrene Frau abfährt, setzt sie alles daran den Verbleib ihrer kleine Tochter Jenny (Kwon-Yea Yong) ausfindig zu machen, die damals vor Haftantritt zur Adoption freigegeben wurde...
    Der südkoreanische Filmemacher Park Chan-Wook ist einer der wichtigsten Regisseure des asiatischen Kinos.
    Seine filmischen Vorbilder sind so unterschiedliche Meister wie Robert Aldrich, Ingmar Bergman, Sam Fuller, Roman Polanski, Kim Ki-Young oder Alfred Hitchcock.
    "Lady Vengeance" ist der dritte Teil seiner Rachetrilogie, die ihren Anfang mit "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance" begann, mit dem sehr brutalen "Oldboy" fortgesetzt wurde und mit dem eher verschnörkelten "Lady Vengeance" nun abgeschlossen wurde.
    Dieser dritte Teil ist in seiner Machart zuerst etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig, weil Park Chan-Wook seine Geschichte nicht chronologisch erzählt, sondern dem Zuschauer Fragmente in erlesenen Bildkompositionen liefert. Daher wirkt am Anfang alles wie ein Puzzle, dass man erst zusammenfügen muss.
    Dies geschieht dann auch durch eine verstörende Beleuchtung zum Thema Selbstjustiz, die nachhaltig wirkt und in einer alten Fabrikhalle mit allen erdenklichen Emotionen und menschlichen Abgründen und Aggressionen entlädt.
    Im Gegensatz zu diesem Alptraum stehen andere Szenen, die begleitet von Orchesterklängen und hypnotischen Engelsgesängen des Moho Baroque Ensembles, die dem Zuschauer Schönheit suggerieren, weil er soviele strahlend helle Bilder entdeckt. Doch der Schein trügt...
    Viele werden "Lady Vengeance" sicherlich ablehnen, der Film ist ziemlich radikal und schonungslos und stößt den Zuschauer zum Nachdenken an. Denn er bietet keinen Halt mehr.
    Für mich war der umstrittene, umbequeme Film einer der diskussionswürdigsten und auch besten Filme des Jahrzehnts.

    After watching Sympathy for Mr Vengeance and Oldboy my hopes were high for the finale of Park's 'revenge trilogy'.
    The film has a different feel to the others,portraying revenge in a different light.In a way very innocent,almost less passsionate. Unlike Oldboy the film has little mystery,little intrigue. The story is simple,Geum-ja Lee (excellently played by Yeong-ae Lee) seeks vengeance on the man who put her in prison.
    As the story unfolds we slowly are revealed more and more as to why and how she has been incarcerated.
    The film (as with Park's previous titles) excels with great acting and strong narration.It's artistic tallent is affluent and adds a great deal to the film. The finale and prison scenes excel ,standing out as favourites.
    The problem with the film is that it doesn't quite live up to the other 2 film's standards. It feels that a little more was needed story wise. It's demise was the fact it was the finish to two brilliant films. The fact that Min-sik Choi (Oldboy,Oh-Dae-Su) makes a 'cameo' apperance along with Ji-tae Yu (Oldboy,Woo-jin Lee) gives it the feeling of a 'tribute film'. Regardless they both play their parts well, but it's a constant reminder of how much Oldboy felt.
    As a 'standalone film' this excels far above the rest,especially over half the popcorn flicks Hollywood churn out yearly.A jem not to be missed,just didn't deliver as gloriously as it's predecessors did.
