Basas noted that TDC is in continuous dialogue with the DepEd management so this matter may finally be resolved.

"If the government was able to raise the entry-level salaries of military and uniformed personnel by 100 percent with regular improvement, there is no reason to leave our teachers behind," Basas said.

Basas also lamented the recent decision of the Supreme Court regarding the removal of Filipino and Panitikan as subjects in the General Education Curriculum based on the memorandum order issued by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

Basas did average 11.7 points-per-game in Season 80 while playing a support role to captain Bernadeth Pons who averaged 15.4 a match.

"If President Duterte will base the salary increase on that obsolete law, just like his predecessors, he would be a party for the perpetuation of the scheme which is unjust and discriminatory," Basas said.

Maraguinot is out for at least three weeks while Basas could play the next game.

"Until now, many teachers are forced to stay in their respective schools for 8 hours or more, even without classes or official functions," Basas said.

"The DepEd cannot expect teachers to be as effective stewards of the next generation if we are being subjected to harassment and intimidation for merely joining an organization to seek what we rightfully deserve," Basas said.

Basas said she didn't see any form of uncertainty in the faces of the De La Salle Lady Spikers, unlike the Lady Tamaraws, who looked to cower under the immense pressure of the finals.

For the TDC, the public education system should be designed to "produce children and citizens with a deep sense of history, who recognize patrimony and are proud of their national identity." The DepEd, Basas urged, "should immediately enforce the teaching of Philippine History in high school."

Basas, though, is ready to let out her inner feisty, and that's to be expected especially with the Lady Tamaraws going up against the equally-fiery defending champion De La Salle in the UAAP Season 80 women's volleyball Finals.
