L'auteur insiste ici sur les difficultes inherentes a l'interpretation de la documentation archeologique qu'il est difficile de rattacher, en l'absence de preuves epigraphiques adjacentes confirmatives, de maniere sure a certaines populations determinees, en l'occurrence serviles. Ces incertitudes font que les fouilles recentes sont abordees, et ce en depit de leur gros potentiel pour l'erection de nouvelles perspectives en matiere d'investigations historiques, sous un angle desormais classique, dans la lignee des travaux socio-economiques de M.
