In our study we found that 9.57% of the ametropic individuals had myopia (1.8% of the total sample), while in the study conducted in 1973, the percentage of myopic patients was 50.13% (15.28% of the total sample).

Among the included patients, 20 (45.5%) had anisometropic amblyopia, 12 (27.3%) had strabismic anisometropic amblyopia, 5 (11.3%) had strabismic amblyopia, and 7 (15.9%) had ametropic amblyopia.

Comparison with earlier studies that had been performed by Awan et al.3 at Lahore, Pakistan, revealed that meridional amblyopia is the most common type of amblyopia being1.5% ametropic, while anisometropic and strabismic types of amblyopia were 0.5%.

The most common cause of ambylopia in our study were anisometropic (36.20%), strabismic (25.86%), ametropic (12.06%), merdionic and visual deprivation (6.89%).

Surfacing manager at Dunelm Optical, Phil Lawson, explained that night myopia makes it difficult to focus on distant objects at night and affects ametropic and emmetropic patients.

Concurrent conditions included Fuchs corneal dystrophy requiring endothelial keratoplasty, epiretinal membrane, optic atrophy, and high ametropic amblyopia.

Factors precluding emmetropia included remaining corneal astigmatism and biometry prediction errors in astigmatic and ametropic eyes.

(1) Add to this the 9% of children with anisometropia greater than 1D, (2) and that around 15% of the same age group having hyperopia over +2D, and a picture forms of the volume of ametropic children who could benefit from contact lens wear.
