The term amblyopia derives from the Greek word amblys, which means weak, dull, and ops, which means vision, and the term cecity from the Latin word caecitas, meaning blindness.

Rite Aid had helped pilot the CECity technology in a project involving a group of its stores in Pennsylvania.

PQS is a joint venture of the Pharmacy Quality Alliance (PQA) and CECity. PQA-endorsed measures are used by CMS in the Medicare Part D Star Ratings Program, a performance metric system used to rate prescription drug plan performance.

In one initiative, Rite Aid has forged a PQA partnership with Highmark Blue Shield, a large regional health plan based in western Pennsylvania, and CECity.com, a technology partner, to improve the quality of pharmacy services.

The award recipients are Highmark Inc., in conjunction with CECity.com and Rite Aid Corp.; Outcomes Pharmaceutical Health Care, working with Kerr Drug and the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy; the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin, representing the Wisconsin Pharmacy Quality Collaborative and several payer groups; Purdue University School of Pharmacy, collaborating with The Regenstrief Institute, the Indiana Health Information Exchange Inc.

Motivating Patients With CARE will come in four versions: a live, moderated, one-hour program; a CD-ROM or DVD designed for individual pharmacists and technicians; a one-hour written CE course available through PharmCon.com; and a two-hour CBT (computer based training) course that can be accessed via CECity.com.
