Of course, the stormy Romantic style of the 1830s and 1840s cannot be reduced to DavydoVs influence (after all, that style appears not only in trochees, but also in
iambs and other meters), but nonetheless, that influence has been underestimated.
To this end, one might ask this legitimate question: in what sense do
iambs emerge?
The distortion of "his murderers" strikes discord in the otherwise ebb and flow of
iambs to stress the royal lady's desire to rid herself of heterosexual love, in preference to the devotion of the lambs, or her ladies in waiting.
This duration is divided between the syllables within the foot: the three syllables of the anapest will have to share the time allotted for the two syllables of the
iamb. The unstressed component, which has been changed from one syllable (
iamb) to two (anapest) "pays the price" in that the duration of time for an unstressed syllable is shortened by half.

Rene Kager (1992; 1993; 1999: 171-175) has shown that the asymmetry of
iambs and trochees can be described without invoking the ITL.
Within the shared, metrically identical constraints of the so-called iambic verse, Russian
iambs show rhythmic alleviation [nonstress] on metrically strong syllables (on average three stresses per tetrameter).
In these early post-historical days, words are frequently used to create cartographies of a thing called individual identity; poetry, meanwhile, is often discussed with reference to trochees,
iambs, sapphics and anapests, and a historical artifact called the English Tradition.
To hear Ricci snap, "Do you not jest?" or insult a friend as "thou painted maypole" -- refashioning the
iambs into a California lilt -- is to realise that Shakespeare and Ricci both know a thing or two about mean girls.
Callimachus, so acute a discerner of the hallmarks of archaic iambos and of Hipponax's poetics in particular, follows the Ionian iambographer when he introduces an [TEXT NOT REPRODUCIBLE IN ASCII] by way of frame for his programmatic
Iambs 1 and 13.
(4) In classical Greek and Latin, dactyls, anapaests,
iambs and so on were patterns of long and short syllables.
But the poem goes on to reconcile art and life, insisting, "I stroke you with both tangible hands/ and feet unstressed or thudding"the "feet," in this case, being the
iambs of a poem.
