Tommy Davis(1939-2022)
- Actor
A native of Brooklyn, NY, Tommy Davis began his Major League Baseball career with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1959, winning back-to-back National League batting titles in 1962 (.346) and 1963 (.326), and helping the team to a World Series title over the Yankees in 1963. A major ankle injury in 1965 hurt his career, and Davis spent the last decade of his career being traded from team to team. But wherever he played, Davis could always hit, finishing with a .294 lifetime batting average and 2,21 hits in an 18-year career, including .302 for the 1967 Mets, .324 for the 1971 Athletics, and .306 for the 1973 Orioles. He made All-Star Game appearances in 1962 and 1963; was a member of Dodgers World Series teams in 1959, 1965, and 1966; and won the American League's Outstanding Designated Hitter Award in 1974.
