"Banana Busters" was a Danish attempt to create a crazy-comedy in the spirit of the Airplane-movies and the first Naked Gun-movie.
Unfortunately it isn't funny at all. Parts of the movie really are clearly a ripoff from "Naked Gun". The lead character is a miserable detective, that drives anywhere in his wagon and accidentally keeps on doing anything wrong. Just like Naked Gun, there are some crazy props, puns and a bunch of stunts. It should be noted that the movie actually contains a lot of interesting stunts compared to other Danish movies at the time, but due to bad cinematography, the stunts don't appear any impressive at all. At least the cinematographer has improved by time.
Although it tries to be very innovative in making a Danish attempt of such a crazy-comedy, it still includes things that we dislike from other Danish comedies from the 80'es, including a bunch of well-known Danish TV-comedians, pop-music, a couple of colored stage lamps, and the mandatory cheap shots of a flight in a small plane from Roskilde Airport.
The movie really is embarrassing. The only funny part of the movie is a snappy one-liner by Peter Gren Larsen, who at least doesn't exaggerate his role.
