Spring in Sweden arrives slowly, awakening like a frozen memory. Little by little, the world begins to shift – the air, the energy, the colors. Then, before you know it, everything changes, and a new story has begun.
Anemon is a new collection inspired by an original aquarelle painting from Kasthall’s archives, created by Gunilla Lagerhem Ullberg.
Painted in 1991 by the visionary behind many of Kasthall’s icons, the sketch lay dormant in the archives like a flower beneath winter snow, waiting for a new spring and a chance to bloom once more. In the hands of Kasthall Design Studio, Anemon resurfaced, and when it did, it felt both familiar and new — just like the Swedish spring.
A timeless legacy, carried into the future.

Anemon may seem soft and light at first glance, but beneath the surface lies a robust construction. Tufted with “Classic” – one of Kasthall’s most trusted qualities – it’s made primarily of pure wool, providing strength, durability and enduring beauty. A touch of linen adds luster and light reflection.
It’s the kind of quality base that allows the pattern to breathe, become whatever the designer wants it to be – and resilient enough to last beautifully for generations.
The dense, cut pile is tight enough to permit details – sharp lines, defined shapes and edges – bringing Anemon’s floral pattern to life.

Anemon takes its name from the beloved flower, admired for its delicate beauty and graceful, slender stem, blooming with the first signs of spring. The large flower pattern has been reimagined in three colorways – Blue, Lilac and Coral.
The Blue edition, closest to the original, uses around 20 different color blends and over 30 yarn colors, creating six tones for the leaves and five for the pistils.
“We are stepping into a new and exciting era at where colours and superior artistry can truly flourish. Anemon is an exceptional example of how rugs are making a comeback as statement pieces in interior design“
– Mirkku Kullberg CEO Kasthall

At the heart of our design studio is the soul of Kasthall. The archive. More than a collection of samples, it is a living, breathing legacy – an endless source of inspiration and wonder. The colors within are not merely pigments but emotions, flowing from delicate and ethereal to bold and powerful.
History speaks through samples and sketches, each telling a story of mastery and craftsmanship. It all began with aquarelles – the first step in designing rugs that would become timeless icons. These paintings are works of art in themselves, each brushstroke a tribute to imagination and skill.
Ideas can rest here for decades before they return. A slice of color from the past. A pattern that once felt too bold. Now, unexpectedly right. A brushstroke, taking us back in time to remember why we did it in the first place.
Some days we visit our archive to try and find something specific. Other days, we pause — and let the silence speak. Not everything in here will see the light of day again. But these ideas shape what we perceive. What we choose. What we create next.
This is more than an archive — it’s a guardian of beauty, a chronicle of a century of creativity, and an invitation to shape the future.

“As we dive deeper into the archives, we uncover a wealth to share with the world – insights that teach us about the relevance of rugs and the significance of materials that matter now more than ever. This is the true meaning of sustainability.”
– Ingalill Ulvdell, Head of Range Kasthall

GunillaLagerhemUllberg

Gunilla Lagerhem Ullberg was Kasthall’s Head of Design for 28 years and one of several female designers who have transformed textile design and influenced Kasthall throughout the years. A true visionary, she was renowned for her masterful use of color and pattern, shaping Kasthall’s identity with some of its most iconic designs.
When sketching Anemon, as with many of her creations, Gunilla favored watercolor and gouache for their honest, fluid translation of color — fluid and alive, like a tufted wool rug.
Anemon marks a new chapter — born from a legacy shaped by women, nature and design culture, grounded in the values that have carried Kasthall through generations, and will continue to guide its future.
Not a reinvention, but a return. A new beginning.
Milan exhibition
During Milan Design Week, Kasthall celebrates the Spring of Kasthall with female design, flowers, and patterns.
Kasthall and Astrid Textiles unveil a collaborative exhibition by A Studio Between. In the heart of Milan's Brera district, the showroom hosts ”The Springtime of Kasthall & Astrid” – an immersive installation exploring natural materials such as linen, wool, and hemp in the hues of spring, ranging from bright blues to soft pinks, whites and yellows. Designed by Richard J. McConkey, the space is transformed into a gallery of light, shadow and texture.
“Anemon in Spring” presents the Anemon rug collection in different colorways and interpretations, while “Textures of Spring” showcases Astrid’s expanded Textile Palette, blending color, texture, and textiles on a grand scale.
