Simple Dollhouse Nightstand or End Table
This little table is a very quick make and a versatile piece for a dollhouse bedroom or living room. I needed just a small nightstand for the Ikea dollhouse, and so I whipped up this quick table.
Materials
1/16” thick basswood sheet
Wood glue
Wood stain or paint
X-acto Knife
Note: Basswood is not the same a balsa wood. Balsa wood is much softer and porous. I prefer to work with basswood.
Dollhouse 1:12 Nightstand Tutorial
Use the PDF download below to trace your pieces onto the basswood sheet. The 1/16” basswood is thin enough to cut with an X-acto knife.
You’ll need two rectangles for the top and shelf, and two rectangles for the sides. Before assembling, paint or stain your pieces. Since the shelf is really close to the top of the table, it would be difficult to paint inside the shelf area. I chose to stain my table with a darker wood stain I had on hand.
Using a line of wood glue on the edge of the horizontal pieces, assemble your nightstand as shown on the PDF download or the image above. The inner shelf should be about 1/2 to 5/8 inch down from the top. I like to use Lego blocks to keep the pieces at a right angle while the glue dries.
Alternatively, you could cut out multiple shelves, or even put just one shelf at the very bottom. I also played around with adding an “X” crossbar at the bottom of the table using coffee stirrers. But I wanted to keep the lines clean.
