(häng′jō′) also Hang·chow (hăng′chou′, häng′jō′) A city of eastern China southwest of Shanghai at the head of Hangzhou Bay, an inlet of the East China Sea. The city was the capital of a 10th-century kingdom and of the Song Dynasty during the 12th and 13th centuries. It is now the capital of Zhejiang province.
