The low-[DELTA] cultivar Quarrion (PI 483063) was crossed in 1991 to the high-[DELTA] cultivar Hartog (PI 483052).
18.9 [+ or -] 0.2 and 19.7 [+ or -] 0.2 [per thousand] for Quarrion and Hartog, respectively) were used as males in backcrossing to Hartog.
The two varieties were matched for height and flowering time but, compared with the variety Matong, the variety Quarrion has lower g (by about one third), lower [DELTA][sup.13]C (by about 2[per thousand]) and higher [W.sub.T] (by about one third under well-watered conditions).
A wheat population was developed from a cross between the low leaf conductance cultivar Quarrion, (`Condor'/ TA3PNB3P)//WW33G/3/(Condor*2/WW33B), and the high leaf conductance cultivar Genaro 81, `Kavkaz'/`Buho'//`Kalyansona'/`Bluebird'.
