[American Spanish, from Spanish, squab, young pigeon, diminutive of paloma, dove, pigeon (the light coats of palominos being likened to the pale plumage of pigeons), from Vulgar Latin *palumba, alteration of palumbēs, wood pigeon; see pel- in Indo-European roots.]
