Max, the streaming service that emerged from HBO Max, is changing how the app looks on just about every platform, including Google TV. The new app ditches the high-seated menu for a familiar side panel option among streaming services.
Max has not gone without changes since it launched as a streaming service. In fact, just a short time into its existence, the service decided to ditch the “HBO” moniker from the title.
It also appears that Max is now redesigning the app across all major streaming platforms, like Google TV (via FlatpanelsHD). Rather than keeping the menu that appears across the top of the screen, the app will now display a side panel menu. The menu expands when highlighted in a familiar way. Many streaming apps use this interface, so it should be easy to navigate among users.
The new menu adds “What’s New” and “Categories” sections in comparison to the previous design. “News” is still in beta in this update and the “My Stuff” section has moved to the top-left of the screen.
The Max redesign on Google TV and other platforms isn’t dramatic overall, but it does make navigation a little easier, in theory. The app update is rolling out gradually and will be fully out in the coming weeks or months.
