In honor of today’s Dracula Daily, here is my Monster High OC: Wren Field, daughter of Renfield!

She’s a vampire, but instead of drinking blood she eats bugs

I used a monster girl picrew and a Magnus Archives picrew because neither was perfect. Combine them to get the vibe

made Wren again

(linking the picrew this time)

I got vintage pattern Simplicity 8519 for 17 1/2" dolls yesterday at the thrift store, and was chomping at the bit to see if anything could fit a 1/4 BJD. The back of the envelope specifically mentions Crissy.

I picked out the pants because I liked the idea of that original flare. I did make alterations before even the first try 😅 I brought the crotch fork up almost an inch. I don't have a Crissy doll on hand at the mo but I don't remember her being half pelvis either 🤨

The space patterned material is from a previous package from @dollsahoy (thanks!). It was not enough for the whole pattern so I tried half and really like the look.

I like the legs but the waist & pelvis is just so bulky for a slim mini. Still fits awfully well for a first go, credit to the forgiving nature of the elasticated waistband.

This set of patterns also printed the same pair of pants three times. Once for each view. I don't know what they were doing. 🤷🏻‍♀️

my suggestions for some fun new monster high dolls now that virtually every normal monster and cryptid concept has been used:

  • wolpertinger
  • drop bear
  • kid whose parents are the four horsemen of the apocalypse (they're a polycule)
  • just actual Jack the Ripper pretending to be a teenager to avoid the law. how do you do fellow kids.
  • the daughter of the Bloop but the joke is that no one ever sees her they just hear her around the school. impossible to market as a doll, I'm definitely getting fired for this one
  • Renesmee Cullen
  • hat man's daughter

hey! donate to uk trans charities today because it’s gonna be a rough one

Folks in the UK, could we have some trusted links to charities?

There's Mermaids which is always a great option, and then Scotland-specific there's LGBT Youth Scotland, to give you just a couple. There will absolutely be more that other people can suggest though!

switchboard.lgbt and akt.org.uk are two i regularly support, and there’s always stonewall !

trans aid cymru is a mutual aid group rather than a charity but ill always shout them out for wales specific trans community support! they have a donation page here

Scottish Trans Alliance do good work, and more locally to me and also locally to the evil billionaire funding so much of this (we are deeply uneasy neighbours I live in constant fear of seeing her) and also Parliament, Resisting Transphobia in Edinburgh do a lot of community work. Resistance is everywhere, both national and local, official and grassroots, and if you have no money spare to donate then you can donate time, if you have neither you can - you Must - reach out to even just one trans person near you, because community starts with smiling at your neighbours, knowing names, noticing if they're struggling. I survived thanks to one queer person I never knew the name of and spoke barely one sentence to taking 10 minutes out of their day to drop off an LGBTQ youth centre flier for me back in 2016. It starts small. It moves mountains. We are not budging an inch. I love you.

Includes the 100% absolute sure way to tell polypropylene from nylon. Just...it's not a really good idea to do it this way...

As stated in the video, the burn tests were done in an open garage and while wearing a respirator/filter mask, and also with proper fire safety measures. This is presented more as trivia than anything. And it is neat how it shows that "plastic" is not a monolith.

Oh, I forgot to add, in the pertinent title card, that Kanekalon/modacrylic is also called synthetic mohair when it's used for doll wigs

I realized it would probably be helpful if I copied the text from the video here

gonna reblog this, too, since it has the summaries of what's shown in the video.

The big tl;dr of it is: polypropylene burns with a steady blue flame, while nylon burns with an orange flame that FLARES and SPARKS.
