Product Description
Product Description
Flip and stack this clever loaf of cards to build slamwiches and double deckers. Tomato, onion, tomato... SLAP! Get there first and win the pile. But watch out for munchers and thieves who are out to steal the stack of cards. The first player to collect all the cards wins.
Amazon.com
Winner of an Oppenheim Best Toy Award, this delightful Gamewright card game is as intellectually tasty as it is hilariously unappetizing. Forty-four cards in the bread-shaped deck are nine separate elements of sandwich fare: one card portrays a lettuce leaf, another shows tomatoes, a third offers a smear of peanut butter, a fourth depicts egg slices, and so on. After the cards are dealt, players lay them down on a central pile (Peanut butter on top of eggs?! Gross!) to construct a card-sandwich that can be won in several different ways. If you see a pair of elements, or a "sandwich" of matching elements--for example, lettuce, pickles, then lettuce again--you slam your hand on the food pile and keep the cards. There are also three "thief" cards to stop (i.e., smack!) and eight devilish "muncher" cards, which demand that you get a pair or a "sandwich" while laying down a specified number of cards or you lose your grub. Slamwich takes about 20 minutes to play, and is deeply pleasurable for young ones, and pretty darned amusing for adults, too. Slamwich is for two to six players.
From the Manufacturer
Flip and stack this clever loaf of cards to build slamwiches and double-deckers. Tomato, onion, tomato... slap! Get there first and win the pile. But watch out...you'll have to catch the thief and stop the muncher from stealing the stack of cards. When you're out of cards you're out of the game. The player who collects all of the cards wins. Parental alert: a sharp eye and fast hand will prevail. Play all out, but the kids will beat you every time! Slamwich teaches reading readiness skills, like visual discrimination and sequencing. While kids are flipping and stacking cards, they're actually learning how to recognize a series, make combinations, and anticipate what might happen.
Review
Slamwich is a slapjack-type card game with an additional memory challenge. Players compete to win all the bread-shaped cards by slapping any card that makes a "doubledecker" (shows the same sandwich filling as the previous card) or' that makes a "slamwich" (is the third card in a sequence that starts and ends with the same picture). - Reviewed in the United States on March 20, 2025Enjoyable, simple game. It’s very easy to learn. Mostly luck and speed based. Not much strategy but still fun and enjoyable. My husband and I are in our 30’s and like it. Would probably best fit families with children ages 7+. I’d say even a 4year old could understand the game but given the need for fast hands to win, slightly older kids would enjoy it more.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 20, 2024I remember LOVING this game as a kid. I ordered this for my fiance's 7 and 8 year old daughters to play at our summer home on vacation. Just like I remembered, it was a hit! Easy to pick up on the rules and the cards have such cool artwork. It's kind of a pain to shuffle and put away the cards, due to their irregular (bread shaped) shape. But it would definitely take away from the cool design of the game if the cards were regular rectangles. This game is so fun to play with 3 players, but up to 6 can play - the more the merrier! It makes it a more fast paced game when more people play. Lots of laughs to be had.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2020Similar to the old school card game War only for multiple players and with sandwich toppings. And thieves. Divide the deck evenly between all players and go around throwing down sandwich cards until you get either a Double Decker (two of kind in a row) or a Slamwich (any two of a kind with one different card between them thus making a sandwich) or a Thief. Once one of those three comes up anyone at the table can slap the deck and win the pile.
The rules allow for playing until one player has all the cards (major drawback to old school War) or with an arbitrary time limit. 10 mins is just about right for our family.
One thing I didn't realize (my fault) when purchasing is that the cards are a tad small compared to a traditional deck of cards. They feel small in my adult sized hands, but probably just right for kids. My oldest gets it. My second mostly. My 3 yr old is just jazzed to be at the table, included and on her own team. She just wants to slap everything that comes up. We're working on it.
But that's what I like most about it. It's a simple albeit silly game that you can spend time as a family playing with all ages. If you're looking for a game to play with young kids this is a great one. Also look at Trash Pandas by Gamewright. That's how I even found out about Slamwich in the first place.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 26, 2016I've been playing this game with my 2 and 4 year old kids. They both really like it, and grasped the concept quickly. I adapted the game for younger players by leaving out the muncher cards. Also we say the name of each card out loud as we lay it down so that I can use my voice inflection to cue them that it is time to slap (...tomato...hot dog...bacon...Bacon!) My 2 year old loves to slap the sandwich thieves and say, "stop thief!" She is too young to recognize the sandwich patterns to slap, but still has a lot of fun playing. My 4 year old, after playing a few times, has learned to slap the doubles (2 of the same cards in a row) and is just starting to recognize the sandwiches (3 cards: 2 of the same with something different in the middle). He has also become quicker at recognizing and slapping so that he can do it first.
I like that we can play this at a relatively slow pace now when the kids are young, but that it will grow with them as they get smarter and faster. My kids like to build silly sandwiches and hit the deck!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2024Got this for our 6yo but the whole family likes it. A good game to throw in the purse/ bag and have at the ready for waiting at restaurants. Sturdy and durable cards. Makes a great gift for K-2 kids.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 16, 2024My 7 year old daughter loves to play War but it honestly drives me crazy. So I bought Slamwich instead. We all love it! She played with friends and they were able to pick it up quickly and it was a huge hit :)
- Reviewed in the United States on June 23, 2008I recently bought SlamWich based on a recommendation and I think it is really fun! It is fast and silly and enjoyable. My 5 year old twins were easily able to play. (Actually, we removed those 1,2,3 cards for now to make it easier, but we'll try to add them back soon.
I did play once with my husband and he did whack my hand pretty hard (it twisted my finger a bit) so I can see where the one person with a "1" star rating was coming from, but I don't blame the game for that - I blame my over-zealous husband! :-)
Since then, I went and purchased several of the Gamewright games, and I think they are all pretty fun. For me, it has been money well spent.
We have added some silly variations to the game - like if you get a Tomato and then Red jelly combination, we yell: Red Wich. Or Green Lettuce and Green Pickles: Green Wich. And Hot Dog next to Bacon: Meat Wich. That sort of thing. Which makes it tricker because there are more combinations to look for.
I believe this game is made by a small company in Massachusetts which adds to the appeal for me.
Really fun and highly recommended by me!
