From the Publisher

More fun than Hearts and Rummy, award-winning Wizard is the “Ultimate Game of Trump” the whole family can enjoy.
The Wizard deck is similar to a regular deck of playing cards with the addition of Wizards and Jesters. Players try to win the exact number of tricks they bid. Jesters always lose and Wizards always win. The rules are easy to learn—the strategy adds an exciting challenge!

- Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2024I'm always looking for fun games for the family to enjoy together and this one was a huge hit! Easy to learn and play for all ages, everyone loved it and it has become one of our favorites to splay together. Would highly recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2011We first played Wizard last summer and enjoyed the game so much that I bought three games for myself and two friends. Played with a regular deck plus 4 Wizard and 4 Jester wild cards, it's a thinking game with a enough luck so that every player has a chance to win. Everyone I know who has tried it loves this game. Great game for adults and older children alike. No one will be bored!
The game plays out a bit like Hearts or Dirty Eights, so kids can jump right in if they've played these games before. The first round one card is dealt to each person and one card is turned up which becomes the trump suit. Each player has to decide if they will will win the round. They bid the number of tricks they think they will take ( 0 or 1 in this case ) and then the cards are played. If you bid the correct amount, you get points. If you take too many tricks or too few tricks, you are penalized. Each round, more cards are dealt until the entire deck is dealt out. This game becomes wickedly fun because no one knows where the Wizards and Jesters are... in a players hand, or in the deck. There is nothing tougher than taking that extra trick after all your careful planning.
It is recommended for children 10 and over. We played with my nieces, who are 9 and 12 but play and love card games and they both needed to play with an adult for the first time. They really loved playing and I could see the gears turning in their heads as they learned card strategy. I think they would have great fun with their friends, but it really teaches strategy and card sense. In a way, it's a very good introduction to bridge and other adult card games that both the children and adults can enjoy together.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2015This is one of the most fun card games I've played in a long while. This is a standard set of cards with two additions of four each, or 60 cards total. Jesters always lose and Wizards always win. In the first hand, you get one card. Top card gets turned over for trump. Person to the left of the dealer starts. First off, pick the number of tricks you're going to take. After all have picked, you play the hand out. If you get the number of tricks you said, you get 20 points plus the number of tricks. If you're wrong, you lose ten points for each trick you were off. Next person deals with one more card per hand until you've played with all the cards and no trump.
The deluxe version adds score keepers which allows you to easily see (without asking the score keeper) how many tricks you said you will take. It also allows variances. On the first hand, there's one trick. If you're last and two others said they're taking the trick and you've got a non-trump ten, most likely you aren't taking the trick, so you can safely bid 0. With the wheels, you can all announce your bids simultaneously, and it makes it much harder. With seven tricks, one wizard and nothing much else, if the others have claimed 6, picking just one is much easier.
This does have updated rules. When I got my first set of Wizard cards, the rules said "Wizards always win, jesters always lose." We've had several times with multiple wizards played. We've determined the first wizard wins. We've never hit all jesters, although we've had two played upon occasion. New rules did match our house rules for multiple wizards.
Overall, great for most ages. I know a friend's daughter played at 6 and enjoyed herself although the competition might have been a bit different than all adults. Overall, it can be very "work together" or very "mess with your neighbor", it all depends on the group you're playing with. If you can get three or more together, I highly recommend Wizard. The Deluxe version does give a bit more than the regular, but you might be better off starting with the standard version and work your way up although the price difference isn't much.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 5, 2024This is a awesome game for family and friends. Very competitive and scores change in one hand!!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2022We bought this set to add to our game nights with friends. It's a little like set-back, but with wild cards. Every player has skin in this game, no sitting out and watching the play. You have to 'guess' how many tricks you'll take, even if it's none. And it truly is a guess.
So far, this is the best 'new' game we've added for 2022 (I know, we're late to this game since it's been around for over 20 years)! Everyone liked it so much I had to send them the link to purchase it.
This set includes the bidding wheels which helps everyone remember what they bid. Start playing the game without sharing your bid until the end of each round. Then switch it up, so everyone knows what you've bid ... and watch the play change!
My only complaint is that the score sheet is too small to read without a magnifying glass. Order a larger version or enlarge & print the one that comes with this set.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 31, 2024My friends and I are addicted to this game. Every time we get together we play other games first because we know once we start on Wizard, we won't be playing anything else. Be sure to get the deluxe edition and there is also a scoring book that you can get to make keeping score easier.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 7, 2014After playing this game with friends and one of our grandsons, age 8, we decided to buy this game to play with the grandchildren. They enjoy it and like playing with wizards and jesters. It is similar to a game we've played using regular cards, but the addition of wizards and jesters adds to the enjoyment for youngsters and does add a twist to the game. The rules are fairly simple. A lot of the game is the luck of the cards received, but there is some strategy involved and requires some concentration. We found this game excellent for grade school children and for a relaxing game with adults. The quality of the set is excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars A family favourite.
This version of Wizard makes an already great game even easier to play. Keep track of tricks with the handy dials and remember how many you said on those longer rounds. We have given away so many boxes of this game after people have tried it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great game and good quality components
Was a bit concerned when I ordered this as some reviewers complained about the bidding wheels being made of cardboard while others said they were plastic. Well they are made of plastic and seem to be of good quality. I like the apparent quality of the cards also. Wish the score sheets were a tad larger though, but larger pdf versions are easy to find on the web. Overall quite happy with this purchase.
