Excellent crochet book even if you're not a beginner
5 out of 5 stars
Excellent crochet book even if you're not a beginner
If you are a beginner - this is a great place to start! The first five chapters (approx. 70 pages) are a step-by-step guide to essentially everything you need to learn to crochet. The whole book is chock-full of detailed, full-color, professional pictures to show you what things should look like. And techniques are broken down into multiple steps with clear, concise instructions. There's even a dedicated section specifically for beginner left-handed crocheters with the proper reference pictures and wording for the basics. If you're not a beginner - this is still a great reference book. Lots of tips and tricks for perfecting your craft. Tons of popular stitch patterns complete with diagrams and more pictures. Ever get confused between bobble stitch vs puff stitch vs popcorn stitch...? They're all explained! There's also a pattern gallery (on top of the projects dispersed through out the book to do while learning different stitches/techniques) included so you can make some every-day items like a gorgeous lacy shawl or some cozy-looking fingerless mitts (and a matching hat!) or a set of chic nesting baskets. All the patterns have comprehensive written instructions and nice up-close photos so you can see all the details.

Great gift for a newbie crafter! My granddaughter, who lives too far away for me to mentor, took to this book like a duck to water. Within 30 minutes, she had mastered the basic stitch and was ready for more. This book is very clearly written, with excellent photos and drawings to help a beginning crocheted find their way. There are several easy projects to claim interest as you progress. I added a couple of hooks and some sturdy yarn to complete the gift. We're both happy with the results!

I bought this book after browsing lots of other how-to books on crocheting. A friend recommended going to Planetjune.com because her website has some really good tutorials, including some for lefties.

The book came two days ago and for a paperback, it's heavy. No flimsy or cheap paper in this book. The font is easy to read, the colors are pleasing and the photos and drawings are sharp and clear.

June gives a wonderful introduction to the craft and covers the essentials (that we new crocheters just don't know) in a clear and organized manner. I found myself saying, "Wow, I never knew that!" and "Wow, that's good to know!" quite a few times as I was reading.

There are some fun patterns ("Practice Projects") included in the book. I did have trouble understanding one of the steps in the coaster pattern, but a friend was able to explain it to me. Her Practice Projects list the exact yarn she used for photo, too. No trying to guess which yarn to use. Of course, nothing in my yarn stash was what she recommended, so back to Amazon I went to order another ball of yarn. Thank goodness for quick delivery with Prime!

The only downside might be, as I mentioned above, is the physical weight of the book. It's a little heavy for reading in bed, but I solved that with buying the Kindle version in addition to the hard copy. I looked at the Kindle sample on my iPhone and it was amazing. Same bright and clear colors and super easy to read. I probably didn't "need" the Kindle version in addition to the hard copy, but hey, why not?

Would I recommend this book to a friend? Absolutely, YES! And just for the record, I paid for both the hard and the digital versions. No regrets. Well, except for this new obsession with crocheting...

I am no longer a beginner to crochet (but nowhere near advanced), and this book still has so much for me.
I have read it through entirely, and everything is very well written and easy to understand. Whenever I came up with a question as I was reading (where do you put the hook for this, etc.), that exact question was answered as I continued reading. I wish I had this book when I was first teaching myself how to crochet!

Overall, this book is very helpful. It is super easy to understand, and it shows/tells you how to do a lot of different techniques, from simple stitches to how to read a pattern, to how to sew pieces together...everything! There are a lot of photos to go along with the text, which is very helpful for more visual learners. I also like the design of the pages. Nothing is too cluttered together or too spread apart, and the placement of everything makes perfect sense.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to learn how to crochet, and also everyone who already crochets! I will keep it next to my crochet desk to use as a reference any time I need it. ♥

This book has everything a crocheter could need, from a beginner to an intermediate. Many stitches are included that are explained and illustrated quite well. Some projects are included as well. There's even a section for lefties. Since I am a left handed crocheter, that was important to me. I highly recommend this book.

The book arrived looking new and unused. It has tight pages but a horrible scent, as if it had been soaked in Fabreeze or a similar product. I could not smell any underlying odor to explain why the fragrance was there.

I tried learning from YouTube and TikTok but this was the only thing that worked for me. I started in October and was making dish-cloths (thick enough to be potholders) for my family by Christmas! I’m not the best with directions and have trouble concentrating but this book made it seemingly easier than I expected!

Had 3 other crochet books for beginners and gave them all away when I got this book. The clearest, easiest to follow, crochet instruction book for beginners EVER! Would also likely be good for those that know what they are doing as it includes many different stitches.
