The Haunting at Mountain Lodge: A Caribbean Odyssey Kindle Edition

4.8 out of 5 stars 8 ratings

Best friends Imani Stewart and Ella Blackman have moved to the Caribbean Island of Dominica to operate an eco lodge on a secluded plateau called Mountain Ridge. Mountain Ridge is where Mingos, descendants of the great maroon chief Mabouya, and his wife Gana, reside. The Mingos have been protecting the forest for centuries.

Imani and Ella have both been through traumatic experiences over the last few years and are eager to find peace, rejuvenation and purpose on the island of their parents' birth. In addition, Imani is desperate to learn about her mother's family as her mother refuses to tell her anything about her past on the island.

When the friends meet Lester Jefferson, their friendship, success as business owners, and even their lives are threatened. Will the enduring love of sisterhood save them? Or will the supernatural forces that call Mountain Ridge home prevail?

Dear Reader, welcome to my author page! I hail from the Caribbean island of Dominica, not to be mistaken for the Dominican Republic. My island is in the Lesser Antilles between the French islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique. We are known as the Nature Island of he Caribbean.

I consider myself a true Caribbean citizen as I have lived in Trinidad, Jamaica and St. Lucia. I presently reside in Dominica. I am in love with my island's rich culture. It's a fusion of Kalinago, West African, French and English influences. Our topography allowed the original people, the Kalinago, to resist European colonization and to this day, they remain unbowed. The topography, with its tall mountains, deep valleys, lakes and numerous rivers, served as a sanctuary for runaway slaves, locally called neg mawon.

I am an anesthesiologist by profession. I have been writing stories from childhood. The Haunting at Mountain Lodge, published in 2025, is my debut novel. A speculative horror, a mystery, a historical thriller, it will be nostalgic for locals while offering non-nationals a look into our culture, our history and our way of life. My country has rich folklore, and i include folklore characters in the book. At the core, the book is about environmental conservation, resilience, overcoming trauma, and the strong bonds of family and friends.

When I am not in the Operating Room, I enjoy growing plants, spending time with my dog and family, reading and writing.

This book is an amazing piece of storytelling and a masterful work of intertwining African ancestry, culture, the environment, greed, loss, and grief into eventual triumph. It vividly displayed the story of us, our nuances and the complexities of life we manage everyday. I was eager to get to the end but didn't want it to end at the same time.

This book is absolutely captivating. From the very first page, it pulled me in. I found myself racing through eager to uncover what happened next but at the same time not wanting to end too quickly. I admire how Lyn incorporated our local culture and beliefs. It made the story feels so relatable.
Great book, looking forward to another one.

This entertaining story follows two women, best friends, as they navigate new chapters in their lives. Weaving together important life lessons, Caribbean folklore, and the time-honoured tradition of following your dream, this story will grab you right from the start.

I thoroughly enjoyed Rebecca Lynn’s story-telling skills and her in-depth knowledge of Caribbean life. This novel shines a light on places to which many have not yet travelled!

The author captures the essence of rural small island living, ancestral ties, and Caribbean folklore, combined with realistic personal challenges to create a haunting yet very relatable tale of two friends exploring new territory, literally and figuratively. Couldn't put it down! Great read
