Fantasticartwork by Claudio Bergamin is featured on the cover, as well as illustrationsby others within the book. It alsoincludes numerous photos I've taken along my journeys. This book stands alone as its own work, so evenif you haven't read my previous book, TheBeast of Boggy Creek, it won't diminish your enjoyment orunderstanding. Of course, if you've readThe Beast of Boggy Creek it will nodoubt enhance the story and offer more perspective on the Southern Sasquatchmystery. Either way, ifyou're a fan of my work, I'm confident you'll enjoy this latest installment. Go beyond!

- Reviewed in the United States on February 27, 2017Blackburn is perhaps the best writer working in cryptozoology today. Not since the late, great John Green has an author imparted so much information on the subject of Bigfoot in such an entertaining, no-nonsense manner. What sets Blackburn's writing apart from many others currently writing in the field is that he actually ventures forth and researchers the locations and speaks with the eyewitnesses in as many cases as humanly possible. He does not simply cull stories from newspapers and the web and re-list them, in most instances, he does the leg work.
In his latest work, Beyond Boggy Creek, Blackburn takes on the largely unknown phenomenon of the so called "Southern Sasquatch." Not nearly as famous as their Pacific Northwest counterpart, the southern cousin of the Sasquatch is no less interesting and in Blackburn's excellent hands, at least as fascinating. You will find numerous and well documented sightings from all over the southern United States both historic and recent sightings are highlighted and dissected. As some other reviewers have already noted, Blackburn does not believe every bump in the night or half-glimpsed shadow is a Bigfoot. He relates the stories and sightings in an entertaining and informative way and then lets the reader make up their own minds as to what, if anything, to believe.
All of Blackburn's books are well worth reading and Beyond Boggy Creek is tops amongst them. It's simply a "must read" for anyone interested in cryptozoology and the Bigfoot/Sasquatch phenomenon in particular. I highly recommend it!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 3, 2017Statistically, MOST witnesses do not believe in any form of Bigfoot or Sasquatch. All too common is the statement from Lyle’s book by Jennifer Ward of Florida when she said, “I didn’t really think it existed, but I’m convinced now.” How many times have researchers heard those very words? Or, how many times have researchers heard, “With the Technology of today, there should be definitive evidence by now.”?
Lyle explores a family tree of events and situations that are mostly about non-believers becoming believers (or even staying un-believers). At the Epicenter of this is Fouke Arkansas and the ‘Legend of the Boggy Creek Monster’. The superior, vivid imagination and words used present exciting and even scary incidents from Lyle’s own “situations” to mostly others’ sightings.
Concerning the credibility of this book and Lyle as an author… Lyle is the type to campout, explore, hike, and get out/talk to the people who had sightings and discuss them in the very locations of where these things happened. The veracity of what he is exploring is not just an overview of the Southern Sasquatch of the Southeastern United states, it is his own quest for his belief in the possibility that these creatures do exist.
The book is too good to put down while getting to the bottom of the mystery. The Southern Sasquatch is still an unproven creature, but Lyle describes good, well-thought out theories that cannot be ignored. There is an enjoyable list of Southern Sasquatch names at the end of the book. Can you name them all, or even come up with one not on the list? One can only imagine as we search and hear of sightings, that we lose a little information every day. Native American Cultures hold a vast knowledge base that has been tapped, but inevitably holds more secrets, names, and folklore that is steadily fading away with time.
This is a serious must read that, at times, serves as a reference guide to the Southeastern United States including Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, Oklahoma, The Carolinas, and more… for the Creature generally known as the Southern Sasquatch.
As Lyle says about the phenomenon, “…Perhaps it will not only bring me closer to the nature we’re at risk of losing, but to the ultimate solution to the mystery of the Southern Sasquatch.”

- Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2017Excellent collection of southern Bigfoot encounters. Only negative thing I have to say is that if you are someone who keeps up with sightings and Bigfoot related podcasts and news, you will probably recognize more than a few of the sightings in this book. However, it would make a great introduction or gift to someone who is new to the subject.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 11, 2022Is Boggy Creek, Arkansas the only southern locale of Sasquatch or does it range further afield in the South from Texas to Georgia from Kentucky down to Florida? Beyond Boggy Creek: In Search of the Southern Sasquatch by Lyle Blackburn investigates the historical and the modern history of “boogers”, “wildmen”, and “apes” in the Southern United States.
As Blackburn stated early on that this book was a quasi-sequel to The Beast of Boggy Creek, be began his survey of southern sasquatch hotspots in Fouke, Arkansas then went up the Red River into Oklahoma and Texas then headed eastward until finally finishing with the Skunk Ape in Florida. Blackburn highlighted a string of reports in a particular area during a timeframe or over the course of years to show that these weren’t one-off instances, a lot of times Blackburn would delve into archival newspaper articles from the 1800s and early 1900s of weird creatures appearing that prompted citizens to form a posse that more-often-than-not came up empty. While Blackburn did his very best to not have “modern” incidents that were similar but needed to fill page space had to including reports that seemed to repeat a few times with just the location changing—these were drive-by sightings. Besides this one gripe, this was an interesting read.
Beyond Boggy Creek explores the southern history of Sasquatch that Lyle Blackburn brought through various sources for readers to examine and come to their own conclusion.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Detailed Review of Sightings in Southern American States
I purchased this book based on the author's interview with Shannon LeGro on her "Into The Fray" podcast, #75. I wasn't disappointed. Author Lyle Blackburn's main theme is that sightings are most often around waterways and that "they follow the creeks". Blackburn lays out reports of sightings and interviews on a state by state, county and regional basis. Listeners of other Bigfoot podcasts will be pleased to hear accounts of encounters like " the seige of honobia" retold by an investigator who visited the ground and often spoke to eyewitnesses. The book also references several YouTube videos that help give added creedence to his reports. In his interview with Shannon Legro he mentions a photo of a creature taken in a barn doorway. The picture is in the book, but sadly, it doesn't come across very clearly on the paper the book is printed on. "Beyond Boggy Creek" is a fascinating study of southern Bigfoot sightings, often creepy and always interesting. Great summer reading as the geographic chapters are short, but also a good companion to podcasts and YouTube research. Worth owning for Bigfoot fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fascinating insight into Southern Sasquatch lore.
I've enjoyed all of Lyle's previous work including his contributions to many TV and documentary films in recent years not least Small Town Monsters Boggy Creek feature last year. This book is wider in scope than his previous books but is none the worse for it. A thoroughly researched and snappily written compendium of true tales reflecting a range of squatchy experiences throughout the southern states. Lyle and his contemporary Linda S Godfrey are the finest voices in popular Cryptozoology today.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best researched, best written and most compelling sasquatch books
Another triumph from Lyle Blackburn. A worthy companion volumel to The Beast of Boggy Creeks. One of the best researched, best written and most compelling sasquatch books.

4.0 out of 5 stars A hairy homage to the southern sasquatch
In his follow up to 'The Beast of Boggy Creek', Lyle Blackburn presents another in-depth look at the resolutely southern sasquatch, concentrating on the states of Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, and with wanderings along the Appalachian trail and a few Floridian frights thrown in.
Famous encounters you've maybe heard, but perhaps never associated with the south, are revealed in the thorough investigative reporting and work revealed in the book.
My only criticism, is that the editing of the book leaves a lot to be desired, as almost seems customary in this field unfortunately. Missing words were the biggest repeat offender, and did detract from the writing, hence mentioning.
