The Twelve Astrological Houses: The Way of Creative Accomplishment (The Lost Writings of Dane Rudhyar) Paperback – June 5, 2013
Purchase options and add-ons
This volume should not to be confused with Rudhyar's later works -- "THE ASTROLOGICAL HOUSES: The Spectrum of Individual Experience" -- which is currently out-of-print and available used at Amazon.com -- or with "The Twelve Houses as Problems We All Face."
Some sample passages from THE TWELVE ASTROLOGICAL HOUSES:
"Every personality is the child of an individual vision (Ascendant) and of a set of collective habits (second house), Rudhyar writes. The great person is one who uses such habits to demonstrate the vision - and thereby repolarizes them. The weak personality lets collective habits use the vision which thereby becomes distorted and materialized. Every personality is a field of integration for individual vision (first house) and collective habits (second house) - our inner life is very often a battlefield! It is in the third house that the issue . . . is determined; for it is the quality of the person's environment and of his mentality (largely conditioned by education) which will decide in the third house whether the fourth house factors (ego, home, and so on) will be energized preponderantly either by those developed in the first house or those belonging to the second house."
PLANETS IN THE FIFTH HOUSE
"When a strong planet or a group of planets are located in the fifth house of a natal chart this does not mean the native will necessarily be a particularly gifted artist, or a great lover, or the progenitor of many children, and so on. It indicates, rather, that matters related to this house will be insistently the focal point for the person's attention. The native will be involved in fifth house issues and experiences by apparent choice or by compulsion . . . They will create problems which will demand a solution.
Problems however constitute opportunities for growth and for 'creative accomplishment' - thus the title of this series. Where there are no problems, the mind and will of the individual are not roused into operation . . ."
MOON IN THE ELEVENTH HOUSE
"The Moon in the eleventh house signifies a person highly sensitive to social moods and changes, who is often the mouthpiece of some great mass-movement seeking expression in a subterranean manner. The spiritual-occult systems proclaimed by Rudolph Steiner are much involved in personalized states of consciousness and dependent on personal 'revelations'. Indeed, it might be argued the 'revelations' of the seer could merely be projections of his collective, national and personal 'hopes and wishes' and fears and prejudices, rather than authentic and significantly interpreted revelations of spiritual realities. The traditional chart of Joan of Arc shows Moon conjunct Jupiter in the eleventh house - indeed an excellent symbol for one whose "Voices" saved a Kingdom . . ."

About the author

MICHAEL R. MEYER has more than 45 years experience in the field of metaphysics. During the late-60s and early-70s, Michael was recognized by Dane Rudhyar, Marc Edmund Jones, and Israel Regardie as an astrological and metaphysical prodigy. A world citizen, Michael has lived in New York City, Berkeley, Palo Alto, Kathmandu, Amsterdam, South America, and West Hollywood.
Since the 1960s, Michael has worked hard at living-up to his reputation as the enfant terrible of astrology, always challenging established authority and outmoded mindsets. Along the way, he has hung with and talked astrology and metaphysics with everyone from Jimi Hendrix to Terence McKenna to physicist Fritjof Capra; from Allen Ginsberg to Beat artist Michael Bowen to iconic Stevie Nicks.
As an "astrologer's astrologer," Michael R. Meyer has helped countless astrologers refine their art and better help their clients. As a consultant and teacher, he has developed and taught highly effective techniques capable of penetrating quickly to the core issues at hand. Michael is also the creator of CyberWorld Khaldea and the designer and developer of KhaldeaTechnology, which includes Khaldea2001, the KhaldeaEphemeris and the KhaldeaCalendar.
HUMANISTIC CORE-ISSUE ASRTROLOGY
Michael R. Meyer is author of the astrological bestseller A HANDBOOK FOR THE HUMANISTIC ASTROLOGER, one of the most influential and widely read books on serious astrology published during the 20th century. A HANDBOOK introduced astrology to a new generation of educated seekers turning to astrology not to know "what will happen and how it can be avoided if it's unpleasant" but to better understand their essential characteristics and to discover their innate potential and life purpose. Readers first exposed to serious astrology through this volume figure largely among today's leading astrologers and astrological writers.
In his practice, Mr. Meyer focuses on showing clients the fundamental principles of astrology at work. He guides them in a highly effective, collaborative reading in which the client experiences astrology directly and learns self-reliance instead of being told what to do. Countless collaborative sessions support his view that anyone can quickly learn the core principles of astrology and how to use them to effectively read their own chart and improve their life and relationships.
Such a conviction has always been at the foundation of Michael's work and writing. His A HANDBOOK intentionally avoided the usual cookbook format, and the extensive reliance on memorized fragments such an approach requires, in favor of exploring astrology's core principles. In it and in his other works, such as LUNATION PLANNING, he demonstrates his unmatched ability to make astrology accessible to everyone.
Michael lives in Berkeley, California, where he is often seen in local cafes and bookshops. Michael still visits the Himalayan Republic of Nepal, where he is active in the art and music scene, and engages in social activism.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2021This book goes beyond the surface traditional meanings of the astrological houses. Rudhyar truly speaks to human spiritual evolution through each house and how they apply to a person's natal chart, depending upon what planet may be there. It was written during WW2, so no information about Chiron in a particular house. The only other thing missing would be the lunar nodes in specific houses. Overall, it is an amazing illumination and holistic experience of the houses.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2014I think the importance of this book in the understanding of houses can not be understated. I was tipped off this this book by Tom Lescher in one of his Pele reports. Before each house is explained, its relation to the horizon and meridian is taken into context, and the relation of each house to three member houses is considered. For instance, the fourth, the beginning hints of the native as a person outside their self is carefully developed. I know this sounds strange, but the writing practically brought me to tears as the description of this important growth of the native was exposed, and the movement through the first three houses was explained.
I will have to read all of Rudhyar's books - they seem too profound to ignore.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 20, 2019A strong framework for using the houses much more deeply than ever before. Dane covers material and foresees changing consciousness by road mapping against the houses of the zodiac.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book to learn about the 12 Houses.
Probably the best book on astrological houses I have ever read. Dane Rudhyar is a master, his explanations are very insightful. It's a short book but not frivolous or superficial like much astrology. This book is a helpful lens to focus the development and actualization of your deepest self. The descriptions go much deeper than most astrology books about the houses. Ultimately it is a detailed and accurate resource and I enjoyed it a lot. I would also recommend Jan Spiller's book Astrology for the Soul to discuss the North Node in a lot of detail. The North Node is a very important but often overlooked astrology concept to learn about.
