Anano's Zines

- Short History Of Zines -

Zines (pronounced ZEENS) originate from the need of under-respresentated and marginalized voices to be heard. The Harlem Renaissence in the 1920s shows exactly this. A group of Black creative would gather and create a literary magazine called "Fire!!" in the style of a little magazine. This style of little magazines set a trend, and by the 1920s-1940s science-fiction fans independently published magazines to discuss their interests.

This Fanzine style got more popular in the 60s and multiple fanzines revolving around "Star Trek" were born. Then in the 70s, as copy machines became more accessible than ever, zines became more available too! This led to new branches of zine styles like "perzines" (short for personal zines where the creator talks about an experience about themselves) and punk/riotgrrrl styles, which called for social and political change.

Ever since then, artists of all backgrounds have used zines as a way to express themselves!

- Why Did I Make This Website? -

I've always loved creating in various mediums. I self proclaim myself as a "creative sponge" since all I do is soak up anything that looks coolr or shiny. This website is a love letter meshing all of my interests in the style of zines. Through zines, I remix various different images and works into something uniquely my own. My goal is to experiment, express, and share my art that will hopefull spark inspiration in others! :-)
