When thinking `Fairy Princess Rane`, the first thing coming to mind is `Silly`. Animation is okay; not really good, not really bad, but it has some scenes which are done pretty nice and that...

When thinking 'Fairy Princess Rane', the first thing coming to mind is 'Silly'.
Animation is okay; not really good, not really bad, but it has some scenes which are done pretty nice and that's it.
The music is okay, but the voices are good. Especially the voice of the guy with the hair, since he actually speaks almost his entire script backwards - which requires quite some skill.
Also mentionable is that they speak a lot of times at the same time, resulting in a lot of subtitles onscreen for different people at the same time.
The story is pretty simple, but they make it so extremely silly that it's even funny. Although the jokes are easy to understand and hard to miss, they're usually so damn stupid or silly that it just makes you grin. Does it need a story? Not really ... the story exists for the sake of making the characters do things, and for nothing else.
The characters are very nice. Every character has its own characteristics and most of them are just plain weird. Think about a man who speaks every sentence backwards and you'll understand how extremely weird this anime is. Also note the fairy Rane itself, who tries to overcome the language barrier.
Still, Fairy Princess Rane isn't really that funny, and I didn't like everything of it either. Perhaps it's too silly at times, or just too predictable, but I only enjoyed it when I'm already in the mood to laugh. But it's good enough to have a big laugh whenever you're in the mood. It's still a nice anime, and although there is a preview for episode 3, it has never been made - or perhaps they just like to tease us ;)
If you liked this, you might also want to try 'Jubei-chan', which contains about the same level of 'sillyness'.
