You have to have enough tissue to hold the barbell without the tissue being manipulated a certain type of way.  Bridge piercings are also done with a straight barbell. Curved barbells are not acceptable and can cause more scarring and a "cheese cuttet" effect.  This is a great alternative to a bridge. You would need to have the right anatomy for it and be diligent with aftercare to ensure a happy, long-lasting piercing.
