The Secret of NIMH - Mrs. Brisby (Elizabeth Hartman) is shy and timid. She used to get scared real easy, especially by Dragon the cat and heights. But when Timothy became ill, she became willing to do anything to save him, even if it meant visiting the Great Owl and the rats of N.I.M.H. (The National Institute of Mental Health).

The Secret of NIMH - Scientists at the National Institute of Mental Health conducted experiments on the rats, which increased the rats' intelligence to the point of being able to read, write, and operate complicated machines, as well as enhancing their longevity and strength. This increased intelligence and strength allowed them to escape from the NIMH laboratories. Jonathan Frisby and Mr. Ages were the only two survivors of a group of eight mice at NIMH, who made the rats' escape possible.

Justin is the tritagonist in The Secret of NIMH and The Secret of NIMH 2: Timmy to the Rescue. He is Captain of the Guard until Nicodemus's death and became the leader of the rats.
