Summary
Set during the events of the Harry Potter series, Severus Snape is tortured by guilt, betrayal, self-loathing. To interrupt his brooding and to add more to his greivances, he is extremely annoyed with Dumbledore for letting Binns retire, allowing a cheery American protege of Nicolas Flamel to take his place as the HIstory of Magic professor in the joint collaborative effort to protect the Philosopher's Stone.
An American transplant, dropped into Wizarding Britain with little time to prepare for her role, Rhiannon Benning considers herself ordinary, and Severus Snape, her collaborative partner, is anything but. He is an enigma, severe, infuriating, a foil to herself. She is warm and open in her countenance, eager to please, and holds an inner strength she never could have imagined to be tied to her.
Together, the both of them discover healing through connection, even between the unlikeliest of people.

Summary

But he did, and now he has to deal with the shame of having confided his biggest secrets to Potter, of being considered a hero when he just wants to set himself on fire, and of having a whole life ahead of him that he didn't want or plan. The only thing he can do is retreat to the place he detests the most, where no one can bother him: the horrible house of his childhood. There he thinks he will continue to live, but at least he will be alone.
