Chapter Text
“Are you sure about this?”
Taehyung looks up at his best friend, annoyed. Exactly how many more times does he need to answer this question?
“Yes, I am. Just like I was yesterday, the day before, last week, month and six months ago. I’m not changing my mind,” he huffs, grabbing the empty plate and mug from the table and tossing them into the dishwasher. Yeontan trots behind him in hope he’ll puppy eye himself into getting more snacks.
“Don’t be mad, you know I’m just worried and care about you, pup.”
He turns around. Yoongi is looking at him with the same concerned eyes as for the past few days and really, Taehyung just wishes that he would be a little bit more supportive. Like Jimin who is already getting ready in the bathroom to go with him.
Or like Hoseok who promised to come in a few months to Korea and help him adjust to the new reality.
But Taehyung knows Yoongi means no harm, on the contrary, he wants to keep any harm away from Taehyung, even if it’s just minor hardships of life, so he just says, “I know but we talked about this many times. I can do it. I want to. There’s nothing I want more.”
Yoongi maintains eye contact for a few moments and finally sighs. He stands up from his seat and walks over to hug Taehyung tightly. “I know. And I will support you in any way I can.”
He buries his nose in Yoongi’s neck, the familiar scent of petrichor emanating nothing but sincerity. “I know.”
“You ready?”
He looks at Jimin who is holding his hand and smiling widely. Then at the doctor in front of him.
“I’m ready.”
“Did it work?”
Those are the first words that Yoongi greets them with when they return. He’s practically buzzing with excitement, standing by the door as if he’s been waiting for them all this time since they left. A stark difference from his attitude this morning. Jimin snorts but nonetheless helps Taehyung off of his coat. Taehyung only rolls his eyes.
“It’s too early to say, calm down.”
But Yoongi doesn’t pay any attention to his words and comes closer, to gently place his hands on his flat stomach.
“I can’t believe there is a pup growing inside of you,” he whispers, wonder clear in his voice.
Taehyung looks down and places his hand next to Yoongi’s. He smiles lovingly.
“Yeah, me neither.”

The following two weeks are both a nightmare and a highlight of Taehyung’s life. While before the procedure Yoongi was anxious and tried to talk him out of the whole thing (“Do you even know how hard it is to be a single parent?”, “There are so many asshole alphas out there, who knows how they are going to treat you just because you’ll be an unmated pregnant omega”, “It’s hard for alphas to accept other alpha’s pups, I don’t want you to be alone just because my rank is full of shit.”), after he seems the most excited out of all four of them.
He demands Taehyung take a pregnancy test every day, even if they try to explain to him that it’s not possible to get an answer so soon. But he still enters the house after the day of work with a new paper bag from the pharmacy. Taehyung indulges him and tries not to coo every time Yoongi visibly sags when there is only one pink line.
There was also an immediate change in their diet, much to Jimin and Taehyung’s (and Yeontan’s) chagrin. It looks like Yoongi went through all possible pregnancy websites and he decided to cut all unhealthy products from their kitchen, effective immediately. Now their fridge and storage are filled with fresh vegetables, eggs, salmon, beans, sweet potatoes, walnuts, dried fruit and home cooked meals.
He makes sure Taehyung rests and is comfortable all the time. He even started to control his sleep schedule, which, in Taehyung’s opinion, is a bit going overboard. Jimin agrees with him though and has started to joke that Yoongi considers himself a pup's dad and if they are going through all the adjustments already, maybe it’s time for them to make their own pup. To the omegas’ horror, Yoongi looked like he actually considered it.
But it is so much better now. And Taehyung is truly thankful that his friend cares so much and he feels less stressed and uneasy because of the uncertainty if the procedure worked. He wants it to work so much.
So even if Taehyung is getting a little bit annoyed, he’s happy that his pup is going to have such an amazing uncle and that they are so loved already. Taehyung might not have an alpha but he and his pup will never be alone.
When the day finally comes and the test shows two lines, Yoongi bursts into tears, the moment a crying Taehyung announces the news. Even Yeontan seems to understand there’s something important going on as he keeps wagging his tail and doesn’t leave Taehyung’s side.
They celebrate with juice (“You can’t have any kind of bubbles Tae!”) and after long pestering - pizza. Of course, Taehyung knows he needs a confirmation from the doctor to be hundred percent sure but it’s hard not to have his hopes up. Especially when he sits on a couch next to Yoongi who is reading about baby strollers specifications and Jimin adds baby clothes to the online basket like a madman.
He’s excited and the next few days are spent waiting for the doctor appointment. On the “D-Day”, as they like to call it, Yoongi wanted to tag along but Taehyung firmly refused, perfectly aware that the alpha would stress like crazy and that in turn would stress him out as well.
So when he sits on the chair, his hand is held once again by a very excited Jimin. It helps, Taehyung feels like a bundle of nerves even though he’s almost sure everything is fine and the procedure was successful. His blood is already at the lab and doctor Song is updating the documents in the meantime. According to him, the blood test results are just formality and nowadays pharmacy pregnancy tests are almost 100 percent accurate.
“Tae, you’re shaking,” Jimin whispers and strokes his hair. He’d release calming pheromones as well but he doesn’t want to make the doctor uncomfortable. “It’s going to be okay, little bean is there for sure, judging by how Yoongi got overly protective of you lately. He might be dumb alpha but his instincts work strangely fine.”
“It’d be more like a sesame seed,” doctor Song provides, and they look at him surprised. “If everything is fine, you’re in the third week so the embryo isn’t the size of a bean yet.”
“Oh Luna, that’s so freaking cute!” Jimin exclaims and caresses Taehyung’s belly lightly. “They’re so small they are not even visible yet out here.”
“And they won’t be for another few weeks. By that time they’re going to be the size of a plum.”
Hearing that Taehyung has an urge to squeal but at this moment there’s knocking on the door and the nurse walks in to hand the doctor the results. He reads the file for a minute and when he finally looks up, he’s met with two sets of eyes, looking at him expectantly.
“Well, Mr Kim. It seems like you’re going to be a dad in a few months.”
After the happy news, two omegas hit the mall and Jimin insists on finding the cutest onesie in the entire baby store and buying it in every size possible. So they walk around, all giddy and giggly, addressing Taehyung’s flat belly all the time as if the pup inside could take part in their conversation.
“Okay, serious question now. Tiger, bunny or, for Luna’s sake this is so freaking cute, penguin?” Jimin holds up three hangers and Taehyung feels like he’s about to turn into a puddle of goo. This is real. He’s pregnant.
He looks at the tiny clothes and most gladly he’d buy all of them. But then he remembers one line from the donor’s file, the one in the “Fun Fact” section, that finally sold the deal for him during a selection process. “My relatives insist I have a bunny smile. I don’t agree, though.”
He smiles and strokes his belly. “Let’s get the bunny one.”
“Oh no, I was already attached to the penguin,” Jimin whines and pouts but puts the tiger and penguin away nonetheless.
“I will buy you every size of the penguin one when you and hyung get pregnant,” Taehyung promises and the omega smiles widely, a little stack of onesies already in his arms.
On their way home they discuss next steps. Taehyung has the whole google sheet with an action plan and checklist for each week of pregnancy. He created it the very same night he decided to go through the procedure, just to feel a bit more confident. Going through pregnancy as a single father is going to be a challenge itself, so having a clear schedule will at least ease his mind a bit and he will not have to constantly remember about everything.
And the priority after getting pregnant is to find a new apartment.
He doesn’t really like the idea. He loves living with Jimin and hyung, they are a pack, it’s natural for them to crave each other’s company. It’s already been hard for them since Hoseok moved away, packmates’ separation is a serious issue with such tight-knitted packs as theirs but it was necessary for Hoseok to thrive and take over the dance world. And now it’s necessary for Taehyung.
One thing is to be a single friend living with their mated friends, another is to be a single father living with them. He’d love help, he really would, but he knows it’s already overdue for him to move out. And his pup is a perfect incentive to take this step.
So they plan with Jimin to start browsing the offers as soon as possible as it’s probably going to take some time before they find something Taehyung finds satisfying and Yoongi hyung as well. As the head alpha of their pack he kinda has the last word in every important decision they make. Not really, at the end of the day he never imposes his own ruling, but none of them can deny their alpha has great judgement skills and they trust him enough to more often than not follow his advice. That’s why he knows the apartment hunting will take way more time, because Yoongi will pay attention to details Taehyung would never think about.
They don’t stop anywhere to grab take out, it doesn’t make sense anyway as hyung probably already prepared a homemade meal, nutritious and safe for pregnant omegas. When Taehyung moves out he will probably keep delivering him food, anxious that Taehyung might get harmed by terrifying take outs or not enough vegetables.
Both laden in bags, they march the short distance from the car to the house, cursing and complaining and this is something Taehyung for sure is going to miss. Coming home from shopping with Jimin, after spending too much money but also having so much fun during it.
He opens the door, covered in sweat and he gets face to face with Yoongi, who stretches his hand out to them, when Jimin also enters the apartment.
“They are this big… it’s… it’s so tiny,” he whispers and only then Taehyung notices a sesame seed in the centre of his palm.
“Oh, hyung…” Taehyung chokes out and leaves the bags on the floor to throw himself in his arms.
“I’m so happy, pup,” Yoongi whispers and the omega only tightens his embrace.
“Me too, alpha, me too.”
If Taehyung thought that choosing a sperm donor was a difficult job, it was a piece of cake compared to apartment hunting. He has no idea how it is possible but every single flat has not even one but multiple flaws. And that with price not being the biggest issue, as Taehyung can comfortably afford maybe not the most luxurious but very decent apartments.
After one week of fruitless search, he starts browsing the builder's finish market. It’s not ideal but he probably has enough time to make it work if he buys something soon. He really wants to just take whatever, as his morning sickness started and it turns out the name is a blatant lie as Taehyung feels sick basically 24/7.
He’s also sick of ginger tea already as that’s what Yoongi found out helps for nausea during pregnancy and now prepares excessive amounts of it. Taehyung would smack his head but everytime he remembers how at the beginning of the fourth week, the alpha entered his bedroom with a pomegranate seed, claiming excitedly that Taehyung’s baby is already such a big pup. So yeah, his hyung is endearing, even if he’s making Taehyung drink disgusting beverages that make him wanna puke and calm down his nausea at the same time.
The next time Yoongi presents him with the pomegranate seed it’s with blueberry fruit next to it.
“They grew this much during one week, Tae,” he coos, sitting at the edge of Taehyung’s bed while the omega rebuilds his nest for the third time this morning.
“I can’t believe something so small can give people constipation, heartburn and that damn morning sickness.” Taehyung rolls his eyes but can’t help the smile blooming on his face. “You’re growing up well, huh?” He caresses his tummy and can't help but wish to finally start showing. Right now there is no physical evidence he’s really pregnant. Of course, there are all the symptoms and his doctor’s word but beside that he doesn’t look pregnant. Jimin insists that he starts to develop boobs, but all he can feel is itchiness.
Maybe Jimin is onto something after all.
“Guys, I think I found it!” The other omega calls for Taehyung and Yoongi’s attention.
“What did you find?” Yoongi enters the living room, throwing two fruits at his hand into his mouth.
Jimin smiles broadly. “A perfect flat for Taehyungie.”
And the perfect flat it is. It’s gonna need some renovations but it ticks all the boxes - the district, the square footage, the number of rooms and bathrooms, a parking spot in an underground garage, elevator, balcony, a little extra space in the kitchen to turn into pantry, animal friendly building, park at the end of the block, Yoongi’s face of reluctant approval after looking at the offer.
Taehyung calls the number from the ad immediately and schedules the appointment for next week.
So when the pup reaches the size of a raspberry, the three of them take Yoongi’s car and after half an hour drive, they arrive in front of the row of the identical modern, four-storey buildings.
“Thirty minutes in the middle of the day, not bad. I’m happy you’re not moving too far,” Jimin points out, opening the car door.
“I am not moving yet, I am not even sure I’m going to buy it,” Taehyung snorts and slaps Yoongi’s hand when he tries to help him get out of the car. “And if I do, it will take weeks for all the work it requires.”
“Dear Luna, you start to talk like Yoongi,” Jimin sighs. “A bit of optimism wouldn’t kill the two of you.”
“I can’t afford optimism. It’s bullshit and now I need to be a realist more than ever.”
“You poor little bub, at least you will have one fun uncle,” Jimin baby talks to Taehyung’s belly and after that a tall beta approaches them and lets them inside the building and to the flat.
And the apartment looks even more perfect than on the internet. Yoongi doesn’t say a word but he keeps nodding and Taehyung and Jimin already make plans on how to arrange each room. He probably could search a bit longer but he doesn’t want to. He has a feeling that this is it, this is their home, so he signs all the papers the very same day.
He also breaks the toilet with the first morning sickness experienced in his new place.
After that Taehyung measures time with new fruit and next steps of the flat renovations.
The pantry wall is added and Yoongi brings cherries home.
The floors and tiles are laid and Taehyung discovers that kumquat’s smell makes him sick and even ginger tea doesn’t help with that.
The bathroom is finished and Jimin makes the whole batch of fig jam. It’s also the time for the next doctor appointment and NIPT blood test. It’s very unlikely for pups from alpha x omega pregnancy to have any chromosomal disorder but Taehyung prefers to do it anyway, even if just for his peace of mind. He’s been wondering if he wants to know the gender yet but the moment the doctor asks, he refuses. All the results turn out perfectly fine and Yoongi cries when Taehyung comes back with a very first ultrasound photo. The three of them with Yeontan facetime Hoseok that evening and the four of them cry together, with happiness because their pack is growing, with sadness because it’s separated and they haven’t scented or been scented by Hoseok in a few months already. He promises to send Taehyung a package with scented blankets, clothes and plushies so he can use them for his nest. Jimin declares that he’s going to steal one.
There is still no progress on the carpenter case but door frames and doors are delivered and installed and thanks to the pup they are drinking lemonade this week. Taehyung also obsessively rebuilds his nest and only stops when one day Jimin borrows him a body pillow that helps Taehyung with sleeping comfortably.
It’s a peach week when the renovation works get back on track and after a harsh conversation with Yoongi, the carpenter promises to prioritise Taehyung’s order.
“What a dick, the only reason I’m not convincing you to change him is that he’s the best in Seoul,” Yoongi murmurs, while checking if the walls in the pup’s room are thoroughly painted and skirting boards are intact.
“I’m just happy he finally showed up. I’d hate to be moving in a watermelon state.” Taehyung shrugs, inspecting the door frames. “Isn’t that some defect, hyung?” Yoongi comes closer to check and assures him the weird shape is just a natural pattern of the wood.
Later this week they facetime Hoseok again so the whole pack can celebrate the end of the first trimester of Taehyung’s pregnancy.
Only two more to go and they will finally meet their new family member.
